Summary:

Major Responsibilities: 

  • Prioritizes patient safety and patient satisfaction; maintains awareness of dignity, comfort, and safety needs of patient
  • Always provides excellent patient care; practices strong nursing autonomy in patient care while coordinating care with an ED MD
  • Triages patients while obtaining vital signs, a thorough history, and a nursing assessment
  • Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation and understanding, and reduce apprehension
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing techniques
  • Delegates within scope-of-practice to other clinical staff; manages patient flow within the center by effectively communicating with all disciplines
  • Prepares equipment and aids provider during treatment and examination of patient
  • Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions; notifies provider of patient condition as well as any changes to it, reaction to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents
  • Responds to life saving situations according to nursing standards, policies, procedures, and protocols; must be comfortable running “codes”
  • Provides direct patient care interventions according to scope of practice, and as ordered by the provider
  • Initiates a thorough patient education plan according to the individualized needs of the patient, as prescribed by the provider and/or policy, including patient and family instruction

Requirements:

  • Must have a current and unrestricted License Vocational Nurse Diploma
  • Must have at least 1 year of prior clinical experience
  • Must be IV/Phlebotomy certified
  • Must be comfortable with IV administration, phlebotomy, processing labs (blood and urine), injections, ear lavage, and performing EKGs
  • Must be BLS, ACLS, and PALS certified
  • Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Must provide weekend coverage; 3-4 Saturdays or Sundays per month

 

Working Conditions: 
Center-Based. Requires working in a clinical setting. The noise level is moderate and there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. The ability to stand and sit for hours at a time, (with some bending and stooping), ability to use manual dexterity in relation to clinical requirements, and ability to lift 50 lbs.
