Responsibilities

This RN position will provide nursing support to the various subdivisions of PHIDOM (Public Health, Infectious Diseases, and Occupational Medicine) which may include, but not limited to - the Travel Clinic/Immunization Clinic, the Outpatient Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) Clinic, Transportation (Aerospace/DOT), Immigration, and Preventative Medicine.

PHIDOM provides care for the following specialty patients:

Pilots, divers, and drivers needing medical certification
Physicians with complex medical conditions
Patients referred from specialty clinics requiring immunizations and audiograms
Immigration and refugee patients for medical certification
Workers Compensation referrals
Employees with complex injuries and medical conditions
Monitoring Infectious Disease patients following dismissal from the hospital by managing and addressing lab/culture results and protecting patient safety post-dismissal.
Medical services for the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine students
Providing adult and pediatric patients with education and immunizations. Excellent communication, assessment and patient education skills are required.

The PHIDOM clinics are located on Mayo 6, Gonda 18S and Mayo 17E. Our sites are open Monday through Friday 8 a.m.to 5 p.m.

Qualifications

Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, at least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.

All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.

Additional Qualifications:

One year of professional RN experience in an applicable care setting is required.

One year of RN experience within the last five years is preferred. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to work flexible hours. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. In this specialized Ambulatory practice, RNs deliver patient and family education, communicate test results, manage symptoms, coordinate long‑term care needs, and provide continuity of care for patients with chronic Endocrine conditions. The role spans both ambulatory and inpatient settings, including inpatient new-onset Diabetes education, and supports patients with Type I and Type II Diabetes, bone and metabolic disorders, weight management concerns, and pituitary and adrenal insufficiency. Pediatric Endocrine patients require intensive, longitudinal nursing involvement due to the complexity of their diagnoses and the high risk for hospitalization, complications, and readmissions. The RN is responsible for comprehensive nursing assessments, proactive care planning, coordination with local and community providers, close monitoring of laboratory results, and delivery of detailed disease‑specific education. This work is critical to optimizing disease management, preventing serious complications, and supporting positive patient and family outcomes. The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.
