Samaritan is seeking a Registered Nurse! At Samaritan we are committed to providing and living out our values within our work environment and while providing the best care to our patients. As a Registered Nurse, you are responsible for a group of patients for a designated time frame implementing the Nursing Process. You work closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians in order to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes. Samaritan is designated as a Trauma Level III by the Washington State Department of Health (WSDH). This position reports to the Charge Nurse, Department Director, and other designated supervisory staff on duty.  

This is a Full time, 36hrs/wk, Night shift 7:00 pm - 7:30 am, variable days of the week.

 

EXTRA INCENTIVE:

Up to $15,000 sign on bonus, subject to two-year Hospital Sign on Advance Agreement. (External candidates only.)

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Performs assessment/data collection, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
  2. Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner by utilization of/adherence to pre-determined procedures, policies and care plans.
  3. Identifies patient/significant other learning needs, readiness for learning, and implements patient teaching as defined by policy and care plans.
  4. Documents in patient’s chart, via electronic medical records and/or paper processes, per policy and in accordance with all regulatory requirements.
  5. Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient/significant other and family rights, as identified by Samaritan Healthcare regardless of race, age, religion, color, creed, sex, national origin, or any other classification protected by law; and regardless of ability to pay.
  6. Demonstrates appropriate delegation of patient care activities. Functions effectively to supervise assigned coworkers.
  7. Demonstrates effective organization and priority setting utilizing sound critical thinking.
  8. Demonstrates appropriate use of lines of authority.
  9. May be required to function as a Charge Nurse to include:  Delegation of patient assignment/re-assignment; assists/informs with admits, discharges, and transfers; coordinates staff coverage for breaks; helps staff problem-solve; serves as a lead for unit. 
  10. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  11. Functions with awareness of/adherence to safety requirements. This includes, but is not limited to:  security and safety, understanding of MSDS, equipment, infection control, fire, disaster, safe lifting and body mechanics.
  12. Ensures self-compliance with organization policies and procedures as well as labor agreements.
  13. Ensures the interface with team members and other support groups is conducted in a courteous and efficient manner conducive with the organization’s values.
  14. Conducts self in a professional manner and ensures personal appearance meets the standards necessary to perform the job function while representing the organization.
  15. Ensures that additional accountabilities, as may be required, by management be handled in a manner necessary to meet organizational standards.

 

Qualifications for this position include (not limited to)

  1. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  2. Current Washington State RN Licensure.
  3. Experience as an acute care registered nurse preferred. Minimum one year of RN experience preferred for specialty nursing departments.
  4. Ability to perform the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all assigned patients.
  5. HCP (Healthcare Provider) Level of BLS (Basic Life Support) within 30 days of hire – AHA or equivalent.    

 

 Department RN Preferred Qualifications & Competencies:

Family Birth Center

  1. AAP NRP Advanced (American Academy of Pediatrics, Neonatal Resuscitation Program) is required for all RN’s working in MBU prior to the end of orientation and renewed every 2 years.
  2. STABLE course completion within 6 months of completing orientation, and renewed every 2 years.
  3. OB ALS online course taken within 6 months of completing L&D training and renewed every 2 years.
  4. AWHONN’s Intermediate Fetal Monitoring course for all L&D RNs is required and must be obtained within 3 months of completing L&D training and renewed every 2 years. Advanced Fetal Monitoring course is also acceptable.
  5. RN-C in specialty preferred.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling.
    2. Manual dexterity, light physical effort, ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. (supplies and equipment). Manual dexterity of hands and feet to ambulate 8 to 12 hours per shift and adroitly manage multiple pieces of equipment/tubes/invasive lines.
    3. Physical strength to perform CPR (bed/floor), lift and push/pull 60 to 300 pounds (with assistance) as often as 20 times per 8 to 12 hours and perform constant walking, twisting, turning, and stretching maneuvers in patient care and use of equipment.
    4. Keen mental faculties to perform assessment and decision-making skills in the management of acutely ill patients.
    5. Good reading eyesight. Is able to see clearly 20 feet or more, to judge distance and space relationships, and to see peripherally. Visual acuity to observe patient assessment data and use manual/automated documentation tools.
    6. Emotional stability: Conducive to dealing with a high stress level for 8 to 12 hours at a time associated with caring for acute patients/families, fast-paced physical activity, rapidly changing patient conditions, emotional demands of patients and their families, and demands of maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers, physicians, and other health care workers.
    7. Ability to communicate using verbal and/or written skills for accurate exchange of information with physicians, nurses, health care professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.

Attendance Follows the time and attendance policy; reports to work on time, maintains a good attendance record, has badge and uses it to clock in and out, makes requests for tie off as far in advance as possible, etc. Qualifications KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL: Please describe any specialized knowledge or skills, which are REQUIRED to perform the position duties. Do not list personal credentials of the current jobholder that would not be required if the job were being filled. List any special education required for this position. EDUCATION: TCH does hire AD and Diploma nurses; however all nurses hired after January 2010 must receive their BSN within 5 years of the date of hire. RN’s who were employed at TCH prior to January 2010, and have more than 20 years of experience as an RN are permitted to pursue their BSN on a voluntary basis. A MSN or DNP are not required but supersede the requirement for the BSN. YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: None required REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: The RN demonstrates the knowledge, abilities, and skills to provide age and culturally specific patient care and education. The RN effectively communicates with peers, utilizes appropriate channels of communication and maintains absolute confidentiality. The RN maintains competence and demonstrates evidence of continuing professional growth. The RN demonstrates the ability to accept and implement change and the ability to work in a culturally diverse setting. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: The RN holds a current licensure to practice nursing in Ohio. Membership in professional organizations is desirable. BLS certification is required prior to patient contact. Evaluation – Continuously evaluates nursing practice related to the plan of care in relation to the standards of care established through evidence-based literature and standards established by professional organization that have been built into order sets in the electronic medical record, the individual plan of care, and patient outcomes and goals. Evaluates effectiveness of nursing care interventions, adjusts or continues with plan of care based on patient and family response. Maintains continuity of care by continuous evaluation during ”handoff” report, rounding, and upon transfers to other specialty units and post care facilities. Documentation Nursing process is accurately and concisely documented in the patient’s electronic medical record reflecting the plan of care as implemented by the patient, family, and multidisciplinary team. Documents information in a timely manner, according to hospital policy, to include the plan of care, accurate updates, teaching and the patients’ and family response to care. EDUCATION: TCH does hire AD and Diploma nurses; however all nurses hired after January 2010 must receive their BSN within 5 years of the date of hire. RN’s who were employed at TCH prior to January 2010, and have more than 20 years of experience as an RN are permitted to pursue their BSN on a voluntary basis. A MSN or DNP are not required but supersede the requirement for the BSN. YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: None required REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: The RN demonstrates the knowledge, abilities, and skills to provide age and culturally specific patient care and education. The RN effectively communicates with peers, utilizes appropriate channels of communication and maintains absolute confidentiality. The RN maintains competence and demonstrates evidence of continuing professional growth. LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS: The RN holds a current licensure to practice nursing in Ohio. Membership in professional organizations is desirable. BLS certification is required prior to patient contact. ACLS is required within 6 months of hire in step-down and ICU areas. Certification in area of clinical specialty is expected within five years of eligibility.
