Job Summary and Qualifications

The OB Surgical technician, under direct supervision of a registered professional nurse, provides direct and indirect perioperative nursing tasks for patients requiring surgical intervention or vaginal delivery. Will assist the Labor and Delivery team in the care of patients, equipment and supplies. The OB Tech provides care for Neonatal and Newborn Infants, adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; and adult patients between 18 to 50 years.
What qualifications you will need:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Successful completion of a Surgical Technician Program
Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) as recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
Current Basic Life Saving (BLS) from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross from required
One-year previous experience in a perioperative or obstetrical setting preferred

Maintains a safe sterile field by a – positioning sharps correctly b – labeling all medications on sterile field c – understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d – Participating in a “timeout” with rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety. Demonstrates ability to appropriately set up for a surgical procedure and follow protocol in the counting of supplies/instrument to ensure no foreign object is left inside of the patient. Understands the principles of and can competently assist a surgeon during a procedure and possesses adequate knowledge of the procedure itself. Displays the ability to differentiate sutures and their applications. Demonstrates the ability to close a surgical site (under physician supervision) with appropriate suture. Demonstrates a teamwork approach in the care of a patient during the perioperative phase. What qualifications you will need: (CST) Certified Surgical Technologist Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR is Required.
