About This Position

The Medical Assistant will manage the patient flow throughout the clinic and assist providers in the management and treatment of their patients. Patients come from a variety of backgrounds and various age groups requiring individualized care including infants, children, adolescents, adults, or geriatrics. The focus of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive and delegated tasks as described in the Blaze Health Medical Assistant scope of practice. Delegable tasks and competencies are specific to the role of the Supervising Nurse and Supervising Provider and are described by the Minnesota Board of Nursing and the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice. The Medical Assistant receives direction and collaborates with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers to meet the defined goals of the customer, shift, department and organization. Communication with the health care team related to progress, concerns, questions or problems that arise are an essential element of the Medical Assistant role.

Unit based skills list outlines specific expectations including technical procedures with competency

assessment/validation. Skill and competency validations will occur upon hire and on a schedule determined by Blaze Health based on the Blaze Health Mandatory Education, Training, Education, License, Registration, and Certification policy.

Requirements

Education

  • High School graduate or equivalent (i.e. GED) required
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant program accredited by a recognized accrediting organization (i.e. Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools) with on the job experience and training OR
  • Graduate of a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) program accredited by a national health services organization (i.e. American Medical Technologists) with on-the-job experience and training and passing the RMA certification exam.


OR

  • Six (6) months of previous Medical Assistant experience within the North Memorial Health system


Experience

  • Previous experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Passed X-Ray Operator’s examination, or willing to take exam according to individual clinic needs.


Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Must be able to prioritize multiple tasks in an efficient manner.
  • Knowledge of a skill in using computer software applications.


Licensure/Certification

  • Current BLS Certification
  • Registered Medical Assistant certification required if RMA program attended

Shift Differential: Compensation may include shift differential pay depending on the position and shift worked.

Works to coordinate, oversee, and provide resident-related care. Administers medications and/or treatments in accordance with physician's orders and monitors for effectiveness/response. Manages medications, supplies, and equipment including ordering, receiving, storing, and disposing of all items in accordance with policies and procedures. Documents care using computerized medication administration and charting software. Notifies Clinical Manager, attending physicians, and family members of significant changes in a resident's condition, and takes follow up action as necessary. Monitors nursing personnel on duty during the assigned shift. Nurse Qualifications: MUST have 1 year of Assisted Living experience as a Nurse. Must be in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Nursing and have a current MN LPN license. Must have strong communication and organizational skills. Self-starter with a desire to be a part of a team.
