About Our Unit

UNC Health – Holly Springs Hospital is proud to offer comprehensive, family-centered obstetric care in a modern, thoughtfully designed setting. Our Labor & Delivery unit includes:

  • 7 private Labor & Delivery rooms

  • 5-bed OB Emergency Department (OBED)

  • 2 dedicated Operating Rooms

  • 2 PACU bays

Each labor room is equipped with a labor tub and Nitrous Oxide capabilities, supporting a variety of pain management preferences and personalized birth experiences.

We collaborate closely with our Postpartum and Level II Nursery teams to provide seamless care from admission through recovery. Our OB Emergency Department evaluates obstetric concerns for patients greater than 16 weeks gestation through 6 weeks postpartum, and we typically care for laboring patients at 35 weeks gestation and above.

Summary:
Provides competent nursing care consistent with professional nursing standards. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting.


Responsibilities:
1. Maintains an environment of safety for patients, self and others and supports patient safety initiatives.
2. Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attends education programs based on identified learning needs. With assistance, uses patient education materials relevant to patient population. Assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers. Assesses developmental level of patient and factors affecting ability to learn.
3. Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance as needed in revision of plan of care. Participates in discussion with members of the interdisciplinary team in evaluation of patient care. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
4. Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, including population-appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational and safety aspects of care. Performs bedside point of care testing as required for patient care plan. Utilizes healthcare organization and nursing standards, policies and procedures in delivery of care. Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient/family needs. Consults with appropriate resources in a timely fashion regarding patients with complex care issues, unusual teaching needs and/or those at high risk for discharge planning.
5. With assistance, develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations. Achieves goals and objectives within identified time frame or renegotiates with supervisor. Is knowledgeable about activities which facilitate intra/interdepartmental collaboration. Participates in development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities. Effectively uses communication systems. Participates in promoting cost-effective care. Gives feedback to co-workers. Is aware of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the health care environment. Promotes a safe, clean and secure hospital environment for all.
6. Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. Includes appropriate physical, psychosocial, education and safety needs. Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful whole prior to communication to others. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families. Develops relationships with families that promote their ability to advocate for the patient and their own needs.
7. Collaborates with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care. Makes use of available multidisciplinary resources in planning care. Begins to use full range of communication as a means to convey planning. Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care. Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
8. Reads journals that contain studies or articles that may be applicable to practice. Brings ideas and questions to the staff at large for assessment of applicability.

What you can expect Location: 2301 Erwin Rd, Durham, 27710, NC Duke University Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a high-acuity, high-volume neonatal program that provides care for more than 1,000 infants each year. The unit includes the Special Care Nursery, Transitional Care Nursery, and Intensive Care Nursery, offering a full spectrum of neonatal care. Patient populations include critically ill and medically complex newborns, including extremely low birth weight infants, infants with congenital and genetic anomalies, and those requiring long-term or palliative support. Nurses work within a multidisciplinary team in a collaborative, family-centered care environment. Relocation Assistance (based on eligibility) General Medicine Stepdown/PCU - 8E - Duke University Hospital December 2026 New Graduate RNs *Relocation eligible for RNs located greater than 50 miles from Durham, NC *Up to $25,000 nursing loan forgiveness towards first nursing degree Unit Profile: The General Medicine Stepdown/PCU 8 East comprises 24 beds, 9 of which are in the Pulmonary Care Unit. Our patient population includes COVID/Respiratory with continuous Bipap and Optiflow, Trauma, Transplant, Neuro, Cardiac, OB, and Oncology, GIP Hospice team. Wound Care, Med-Psych, GI. This unit sees a diverse patient population, including COVID and respiratory cases requiring continuous BiPAP and Optiflow, trauma, transplants, neuro, cardiac, OB, oncology, and even GIP hospice care Shift: Rotating shift for 3-6 months then day or night shift, 3/12 hour shifts Responsibilities As a Registered Nurse on our Cardiothoracic Stepdown Unit, you will: Provide and document professional nursing care using the nursing process Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, and resource‑ready environment Participate in ongoing professional development and competency training Teach patients and families in alignment with the care plan Support performance improvement initiatives and unit‑based projects Perform additional duties as assigned to support excellent patient care Required Qualifications Education Graduation from an accredited Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Nursing Diploma program RNs without a BSN are encouraged to enroll in a BSN program within 2 years ; completion required within 7 years of start date Experience No prior nursing experience required—new graduates encouraged to apply!
