Job Duties

  • Recognizes the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Plans, Directs and Coordinates nursing care for a specific patient care area in collaboration with the nurse manager and other appropriate nursing staff.
  • Recruits, interviews and selects staff for the patient care unit. Provides leadership and direction in implementation of strategic goals and objectives. Develops, implements and evaluates unit policies, procedures and goals, which are consistent with department and organizational goals. Assists with the completion of regular performance evaluations for each staff member and serves as a clinical resource regarding policies and procedures, patient standards, performance improvement, and risk management issues. Assists with the completion of evaluations for new staff prior to completion of probationary period with input from appropriate nursing staff. Demonstrates effective conflict resolution skills. Councils employees and utilizes the disciplinary process as appropriate. Develops, implements and evaluates staffing plan to meet the patient and family care needs.
  • Develops implements and evaluates areas of improvement to increase quality of patient and family care in collaboration with the nurse manager.
  • Identifies issues related to quality of patient care, and develops, implements and evaluates unit improvement program/projects within a shared governance model. Accountable and responsible for continuous quality and regulatory management directives including JCAHO, OSHA, etc. Designs, implements and evaluates the unit patient satisfaction plan.
  • Acts as a resource and serves as a clinical role model to members of the health care team.
  • Assists professional development staff with the creation and implementation of educational programs. Recommends, participates in the development of and implements policies and procedures. Provides leadership and direction in accordance with organizational and departmental goals and objectives. Seeks opportunities for nursing research. Collaborates with professional development staff and nurse manager to set minimum competencies and oversees ongoing professional development of staff
  • Manages available resources insuring that the operation of the patient care area occurs within the limitations of the budget
  • Is knowledgeable about costs and revenue opportunities. Assists in the development of cost saving activities. Collaborate with nurse manager in budget forecasting. Educate healthcare team members on cost efficient care and appropriate staffing, and on the efficient use of material resources.
  • Monitors staff schedules to ensure adequate staffing to meet patient care needs and maintain quality patient care. Authorize overtime or scheduling changes to fill shifts as necessary. Completes payroll in collaboration with Nurse Manager. Provides volumes & adjustments to reflect variances in staffing needs within Smart Square.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing
  • L&D RN experience required
  • 2 years acute care experience
  • Effective Communication- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and health care.
  • Patient-and Family-Centered Practice- Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner in care.
  • Cultural Awareness- Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively.
  • Care Coordination Knowledge of the medical, social, economic, and other services provided by other departments or facilities, and the ability to integrate these multidisciplinary treatments for optimal patient care.
  • Patient Safety Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
  • Medication Administration and Prescription Knowledge of various medications used to treat patients, ability to apply this knowledge to the administration of medications and to the prescription of drugs for continuing treatment outside of the hospital.
  • Discharge Planning Knowledge of the patient's post-discharge needs and the ability to consider these needs in planning for discharge and arranging for follow-up care.
  • Assessment and Diagnosis Knowledge of various tools and techniques for patient assessment and nursing diagnosis or clinical judgement, ability to explore and analyze reasons behind symptoms and generate resolutions according to available drugs, facilities and techniques.
  • Health Information Documentation Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods, ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.

Overview Labor & Delivery, Recovery, & Postpartum (LDRP): Experience a unit where you can contribute to roughly over 700 births annually, and then go on to care for those new moms and babies during the postpartum period. With the highly appealing nurse to patient ratios of 1 to 1 or 2 for laboring patients and 1 to 3 mother-baby couplets, this is the perfect unit to establish or progress your career in the fulfilling specialty of obstetrics/maternal-child health. The patient population on this unit encompasses care of the antepartum and intrapartum patient during the labor process and/or cesarean section, and care of the mom and newborn couplet after delivery. Additional opportunities exist to hone and enhance skills in breastfeeding/lactation, fetal monitoring, bereavement training, OR training, and potential cross-training to the neonatal unit. With self-scheduling and experienced management, experience a highly fulfilling specialty of obstetrics in a flexible, teamwork-based environment. CentraState Medical Center currently has an employment opportunity available for a Registered Nurse (RN) in the LDRP Unit. The RN administers culturally sensitive nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with ANA standards, the New Jersey Practice Act, The Joint Commission, professional standards, and established hospital and Nursing Department policies and procedures, all grounded in evidence-based nursing practice. The RN utilizes the Nursing Process to provide patient-centered care and evaluates the effectiveness of nursing interventions through analysis of nurse-sensitive indicators and patient outcomes. LABOR & DELIVERY - POSTPARTUM SUPERVISOR/RN

Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Postpartum Supervisor/RN to join our team! JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the staffing and flow of work for the postpartum unit. Participates in the implementation of hospital policies and procedures. Maintains open communication with all staff to promote improvement in performance. This position requires a sound knowledge of nursing practice and exceptional leadership abilities. Supervises postpartum nursing staff. The Supervisor works collaboratively with unit-specific educators, department manager, the DON and the compliance team to suppo rt staffing and educational needs. The roles of the supervisor include: leader, educator, facilitator, change agent, collaborator, advisor, mentor, consultant, and researcher. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervisor RN Promotes the department(s) and its services in the organization’s primary mission, including any developments and changes to the Labor and Delivery dept. Coordinates and integrates services within the department(s) and with other departments. Reviews, updates and supports the policies and procedures, in Policy Stat, that guide and support the provision of services. Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care with current guidelines on staffing ratios and acuity levels. Participates in quality improvement programs used in the department. Assists with scheduling for orientation, in-service education, training and continuing education of all persons in the department. Provides feedback as necessary to individual staff members regarding their performance. Reports problems with staff members to the Labor and Delivery Manager. Participates in the interviewing and hiring of employees. Participates in monthly staff meetings, charge nurse meetings and monthly unit education. Evaluate the performance of staff: nurses and nursing assistants while having the ability to provide ongoing feedback, mentoring, and coaching. Meets with orienteers’ and/or unit educators regularly to monitor new employees and their progress. Ensures staff receives proper orientation prior to assuming patient care responsibilities. Ensures all employee competency sheets are collected and turned into Education. Demonstrates an ability to identify and resolve problems. Uses initiative and good judgement to reach quality decisions. Maintains an effective rapport with patients, visitors, physicians, and directors. Promotes confidentiality and uses complete discretion when discussing information. Maintains assigned equipment, reports, malfunction, recall documentation and orders services as necessary. Participates in performance improvement/performance evaluation activities, including data collection, development of indicators, and evaluation criteria. Covers call 1-2 weekends a month, as well as scheduled vacation time or sick days for Labor and Delivery Manager. Assists in documentation and data collection for occurrence reports and patient complaints processes. Assists with chart audits and quarterly goal planning/evaluation for the department. Assists Labor and Delivery Manager as needed with administration of the Women’s Center. Assists with teaching unit-based educators as well as staff how to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate unit-specific training to insure safe patient care . Collaborates with management and unit-specific educators when planning training that affects their clinics/department and reports completion of and attendance of these activities. Coordinate clinical staff requirements and ensure that all staff are current in their licensure and education. Assists with the monitoring of employees for timely completion of required courses through the learning management system (HealthStream). Collaborates with the unit educators with new hires and annual competencies to ensure they are informed of new nursing mentorships and changes in unit-specific competency paperwork. Assists with biannual, or as needed, skills labs. Fosters effective collegial relationships with manager, educators, charge nurses as well as staff. Collects data for and assists in the preparation of reports as required and/or requested. Assists with the planning, developing, implementation, and evaluation of education content in response to identified knowledge deficits within the organization. Collaborates with Manager, DON, compliance department, and unit-based educators to implement, communicate, educate, and evaluate standards of care. Serves as a consultant for educational activities within the L&D Dept. Demonstrates effective proactive situational leadership while working within the framework of Mountain View’s mission, vision, and values by actively supporting new programs and changes in the organization. Acts as coordinator and schedules committee meetings, oversees paperwork, becomes the expert of processes and requirements of nursing needs. . Participates in Quality Assurance Committee/Compliance Department team meeting/Nurse Leader Meeting and any other meeting or committee as needed. Assists management with education planning and coordination for postpartum to determine what conferences, certifications, and courses would be beneficial, who will attend and how often attendance is required. Fulfills coordination of staffing and educational needs. Performs other tasks as assigned. Licensure as registered nurse in the State of Idaho. Current BLS, ACLS, NRP, and STABLE certification and renewal as required. Experience : Minimum of three (3) years clinical experience in Labor and Delivery required. Equipment/Technology: Basic computer knowledge.
