Clinical Nurse - Pediatrics ICU - Nights

UT MD Anderson Cancer Center and Texas Children's Hospital are partnering to create the Kinder Children's Cancer Center, a joint program focused on advancing pediatric cancer care. As this partnership progresses, pediatric patient care and operations will transition over time. The timing of this transition is subject to change and a definitive transition date has not yet been established.

For the foreseeable future, this position will support the Department of Pediatrics and provide services to our pediatric patient population. As the transition to the Kinder Children's Cancer Center progresses, the responsibilities and work assignment associated with this position are expected to change.

MD Anderson's current plan is to retain employees hired into these positions and transition them to other areas of the institution as pediatric operations evolve. While every effort will be made to place employees in another appropriate area within MD Anderson, the specific department, work assignment, responsibilities, schedule, and other details of any future assignment cannot be determined at this time and cannot be guaranteed.

This position is for 40 hours a week on a night shift. The ideal candidate will have prior PICU experience

Job Summary

Manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities

Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area.

Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team.

Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes.

Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies.

Participates in data collection for current studies.

Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies.

Documents care according to established standards.

Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems.

Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services.

Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights.

Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
