South Pointe Hospital’s 6 Medical Unit is a fast-paced unit that cares for patients with a variety of medical conditions and diseases, such pneumonia, congestive heart failure, infectious disease, asthma, and COPD exacerbation, and is very experienced in ventilator management for chronic ventilator patients. As Assistant Nurse Manager, you will support the nurse manager by providing clinical supervision and unit coordination. This position offers a great way to gain extensive leadership experience while continuing to provide the best support and treatment possible. 

 

A caregiver in this position works days from 7:00 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. with weekend and holiday rotation requirements.

 

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of ambulatory procedural settings caring for hospitalized patients. 
  • Oversee nursing personnel and patient care providers in procedural settings to ensure quality of care. 
  • Anticipate and resolve patient care issues. 
  • Ensure continuity of patient care by actively participating in and facilitating communication and collaboration among and between department staff and other departments re: operational issues. 
  • Review major operational patient care issues with Nurse Managers. 
  • Provide ongoing clinical evaluation of nurses and other direct and indirect patient care providers on assigned unit/area. 
  • Counsel employees on performance issues, administers initial corrective actions, collaborates in monitoring attendance issues. 
  • Alert Nurse Manager of significant clinical or other performance issues. 
  • Participate in interviewing, selecting and appraising the performance of employees. 
  • Monitor the adherence to EEO/AAP goals and guidelines. 
  • Administer Nursing Institute, departmental and CC policies and procedures. 
  • Monitor daily clinical operations of outpatient clinics (patient flow, staffing, supplies, etc.). 
  • Prepare schedule of work assignment assuring adequate coverage on all shifts. 
  • Participate in and supports quality improvement projects, outcomes studies and research initiatives. 
  • Assist in orienting new personnel, continuing education and in-service educational programs. 

 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing  
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) OR the American Red Cross  
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • Two years of clinical experience
  • Strong demonstrated clinical knowledge and skills  
  • Good oral, written and interpersonal skills, strong analytical and organizational skills. 

 

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Critical care experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

We care for babies who need full-body cooling, respiratory support (CPAP, conventional ventilators, jet ventilator, oscillator), and IV nutrition support as well as attend high risk deliveries and lead neonatal resuscitations. We have a full staff of neonatologists and neonatal nurse practitioners who are on-site 24/7. Along with our provider team, we have a full team of therapists - physical, occupational, and speech – a dedicated dietician, and a dedicated respiratory therapy team, who are here Monday through Friday. We also have a NICU Clinical Nurse Specialist who provides monthly simulations, hip-to-hip education, and just-in-time education. She has also taken on ensuring our policies and procedures are up to date and in alignment with the enterprise and the latest evidence-based practices. Our staffing core is 5 nurses, though we have a robust per diem team as well as status nurses willing to pick up to help the team. Our assignments are generally 1 :3 ( i.e. feeder/growers) or 1:2 ( i.e. CPAP, stable vent, central lines) with the occasional 1:1 for those extremely high acuity babies ( i.e. cooling, unstable jet or oscillator, nitric). As a Nurse Manager, you will manage the delivery of care within the Neonatal ICU (NICU) at Akron General Medical Center . In this role, you will manage the practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care while offering clinical supervision, maintaining quality outcomes and supervising all aspects of personnel management and development. Senior Clinical Nurse Manager- Emergency Department

Full-time, 40 hours/week variable Onsite- Akron ED Summary: The Senior Clinical Nurse Manager oversees daily operations in high-complexity units, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. This role involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care delivery to create safe and supportive environments that enhance patient engagement. The Senior Clinical Nurse Manager fosters a professional culture where team members work together to achieve optimal patient outcomes and advance their professional development. As a nurse leader, this position carries 24-hour accountability for direct care units and serves as a crucial link between administrative strategies and patient care. Responsibilities: 1. Manage the unit's financial operations, ensuring effective budget oversight and revenue generation. 2.Oversee human resource activities including hiring, firing, coaching and performance management for staff. 3.Drive performance improvement initiatives focused on key metrics, quality assurance, patient safety, and regulatory compliance. 4.Ensure the effective integration and use of technology in patient care and nursing practices. 5.Lead strategic initiatives, facilitating change management, collaboration, and shared decision making to align unit objectives with organizational goals. 6.Develop and implement performance management, staff development, and retention strategies to enhance workforce engagement. 7. Cultivate relationships and influence behaviors by managing situations effectively and promoting professional development. 8. Champion diversity in staffing and patient care settings. 9.Demonstrate personal and professional accountability in all responsibilities. 10. Other duties as assigned. Other information: Technical Expertise 1. Experience working with all levels within an organization is required. 2. Strong leadership skills including communication/organizational skills, time management, coping skills, motivation, problem solving, autonomy, and supporting the team is required. 3. Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required. Budgeting and electronic Education and Experience 1. Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing [BSN] is required; Master's degree in Nursing [MSN} or other field [MBA, MHA, MPH, etc.) is required or obtained within 3 years of hire 2. Licensure: Currently licensed to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio is required. 3. Certification: Current Health Care Provider BLS training from the American Heart Association is required. If assigned to general care units, PEARS is required. If assigned to critical care units, PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and/or NRP is required If assigned to ED, Surgical Services, Sedation Services, Transitional Care/Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and Transport, within 1 year of date of hire PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and/or NRP is required. Relevant professional nursing certification, preferred 4. Years of relevant experience: Minimum 5 years of nursing experience required. 5.
