Pay Rate: $42.20-$67.52 hourly

Job Description:

The Head Unit Nurse Manager works under the supervision of the Director of Nursing. This role includes responsibility for assigned Clinical Areas including patient outcomes, organizing, planning, directing, controlling, budgeting, and staffing all clinical functions. The Manager oversees personnel, quality, service, business growth and financial solvency. The manager also works in collaboration with other departments, multi-disciplinary teams, and physicians on departmental and organizational issues.

• Manages the daily operations and coordination of all direct and indirect patient care activities in the Out-Patient Surgery area of responsibility. To include but not limited to Pre-Op, Intra-Op and Post- OP.
• Promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization.
• Monitor that Out Patient Surgery Center personnel provide safe patient care in the area managed.
• Assists Out Patient Surgery Center personnel in evaluating practice and creating strategies for further improvement.
• Verifies that educational resources are available for Out Patient Surgery Center team education and holds Out Patient Surgery Center personnel accountable for attendance.
• Coordinates, facilitates and manages change within the Out Patient Surgery Center departments.
• Maintains effective communication, consultation, negotiation, and collaboration skills with members of the Surgery, Pre-Op and PACU team and other stakeholders.
• Monitors, collects and analyzes data related to performance improvement projects that apply to the area managed.
• Uses effective conflict resolution skills.
• Facilitates or serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning Surgery Center care.
• Evaluates Surgery Center personnel performance.
• Verifies that appropriate Surgery Center personnel, equipment, and supplies are available.
• Verifies Surgery Center personnel compliance with organizational policies and procedures and regulatory, professional and accreditation standards.
• Provides guidance, support and constructive feedback to the Surgery Center team.
• Performs with human resource activities for department employees, such as interviewing, hiring, evaluating performance, coaching and firing.
• Assists in the maintenance of the operations and capital budgets by monitoring staff productivity and ensuring proper use of equipment and supplies.
• Assures the quality of patient care by assisting in the planning, coordinating and documenting of ongoing quality monitoring, evaluation and follow-up according to JCAHO standards.
• Assists to coordinate the review, revision and creation of Surgery Center department policies and procedures and assures the surgery department staff implements and practice said policies and procedures.
• Enhances positive relations with all customers, including patients, families and Center staff in other departments. Enhances the practice of family centered care and provides individual customer focus and practices service recovery.
• As a representative of the Center, demonstrates responsibility and accountability for enhancing positive interactions and for diffusing negative interactions.
• Completes all competency requirements for this position.
• Uses project management principals.

Job Qualifications:

• Nursing degree from an accredited school of nursing. BSN required.
• Masters degree preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of management or specialty team leader experience.
• Must have valid license to practice professional nursing in the State of Ohio.
• CPR certification. ACLS and PALS preferred.
• Certified Nurse of Operating Room Association Preferred. Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Power Point, Excel).
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in area preferred and 1 year of medical surgery preferred.
• Previous supervisory experience preferred.

Exerting up to 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible up to 10 pounds amount of force often.
