Summary
The Director of Nursing and Patient Care Services assumes responsibility for developing strategy, leading operations and partnering with physician leaders and other key stakeholders. This position serves as a key member of the leadership team and will participate in strategy and goal setting and is responsible for overall operational effectiveness of the areas of responsibility. The Director of Nursing and Patient Care Services operates as a key member of the hospital leadership team, developing and implementing strategy to deliver optimal nursing care. He/She directs and ensures continuous quality and safety of staff and patients and improvement of all clinical practices, services and operations by managing the design and implementation of systems, processes and methods to evaluate and improve safe patient care across the continuum.

Job Duties

·       Operates as a key member of the hospital leadership team, developing and implementing strategy to deliver optimal nursing care.

·       Directs and ensures continuous quality and safety of staff and patients and improvement of all clinical practices, services and operations by managing the design and implementation of systems, processes and methods to evaluate and improve safe patient care across the continuum.

·       Builds focus on analytics to enable the clinical area to monitor and sustain excellence in performance as well as identify continuous improvement opportunities.

·       Directs and manages the delivery of nursing services and safe patient care standards which are integrated with business plans to meet or exceed quality, service, clinical and utilization standards while remaining cost effective.

·       Serves as a clinical lead and coordinates/executes project plans for new departmental growth opportunities

·       Ensures compliance with all licensing/regulatory requirements for all site locations and all departmental clinical and administrative staff.

·       Maintains an ongoing state of regulatory readiness.

·       Accountable for staffing, training, and hiring of departmental resources.

·       Manages and resolves human resource, labor relations, employee and department safety and risk management issues.

·       Responsible for maintaining a management team with the education, experience and skills to lead their respective areas of responsibility in an effective manner. Develops future leadership teams through coaching and mentoring.

·       Directs budget management and resource allocation

·       Manages financial performance and identifies and implements strategies to reduce cost and improve quality and safety of care and service.

·       Builds an environment of partnership and collaboration.

·       Works collaboratively with the clinical support and ancillary departments and leadership that support daily functions.

·       Builds strong, collaborative partnerships with all staff, as well as physicians and other care team partners.


Minimum Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing

·       Master’s Degree in Nursing or related field (required if Master’s is not in Nursing)

·       4 years healthcare leadership experience

·       Effective Communication-Demonstrates an understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques, ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Uses the language of partnership with patients and families, engaging them in their health and health care.

·       Patient-and Family-Centered Practice-Knowledge of how to convey respect and collaborate with each patient, family and/or designated care partner in care.

·       Cultural Awareness-Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively.

·       RN - Licensed Registered Nurse_PA - State of Pennsylvania

Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.

The Director of Nursing is responsible for supervising the nursing functions and for promoting a safe and therapeutic environment for clients who are detoxifying from substance dependency. The Director of Nursing shall be responsible for the direction, provision, and quality of nursing services provided to clients, including the following What tasks are required? Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally. Demonstrated customer service skills and ability to interact with staff and clients in a professional manner. Ability to assess needs and deliver nursing services to individuals detoxifying from substance abuse. Ability to screen for psychoactive substance toxicity, intoxication, and withdrawal symptoms. Ability to screen for danger to self or others. Ability to analyze and interpret data to determine nursing recommendations and priorities. Demonstrated adherence to acceptable ethical and behavioral standards of conduct. Participation in continuing Professional Development.
