Summary:

Midwives provide advice, care and support for women and their babies during pregnancy, labor and the early postnatal period.

They help women make their own decisions about the care and services they access/receive.

They care for newborn children and women, providing health education and parenting support immediately after delivery.

Diagnose and coordinate all aspects of the birthing process, either independently or as part of a healthcare team.

Midwives are personally responsible for the health of both mother and child and only refer to obstetricians if there are medical complications.

Work autonomously while collaboration with a physician/specialist.

Position Responsibilities:

• Provide routine gynecological services including reproductive health visits, regular gynecological visits (annual) and peri-/post-menopausal care.

• Diagnosing, monitoring and examining women during pregnancy.

• Developing, assessing and evaluating individual programs of care.

• Provides counseling and advice before and after screening and tests.

• Providing full antenatal care, including screening tests in the hospital, community and the home.

• Explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of procedure(s) to patient, family, staff, and healthcare learners.

• Perform approved therapeutic procedures based upon patient’s clinical status.

• Offer support and advice following events such as miscarriage, termination, stillbirth, neonatal abnormality and neonatal death when applicable.

• Supervising mothers in labor, monitoring the condition of the fetus and handling all aspects of the birthing process.

• Formulate and implement prenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, newborn and inter-conceptional care as defined by the nurse midwifery service.

• Collaborate with physician and nursing colleagues and document in medical records and appropriate narrative summaries.

• Utilize prescriptive privileges Uses knowledge of drugs and pain management when necessary.

• Arranging and providing parenting and health education.

• Giving support and advice on the daily care of the baby, including breastfeeding, bathing and making up feeds.

Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:

2-3 years experience as a Certified Nurse Midwife preferred.

BSN required.

Licensure as a Certified Nurse Midwife.

Compensation:


The hourly rate for this position is: $101.00.
The actual compensation package could vary based on factors such as, but not limited to, the applicant’s experience, internal equity, and alignment with market data.

Description The per diem Midwife is responsible for the primary care and management of patient's health, including obstetric and gynecological care. Both low risk and high-risk pregnancies are managed as outlined within practice guidelines. Develops and supports excellence in the clinical practice and patient care. Maintains the Maternal Child Health Services mission, philosophy, and policies as well as the standards and practices of the Medical Center. Responsibilities 1. The midwife performs functions as an integrated member of the Department of OB/GYN and Nursing. The midwife will: Coordinate prenatal care to the caseload of patients in the ambulatory care setting. 2. Take pertinent history. Perform physical & pelvic examination. Obtain laboratory and diagnostic tests. Provide counseling & teaching as needed. 3. Identify risk factors and develop appropriate plan of management. Manage the care of selected patients admitted to the inpatient unit-based on unit protocols and with the collaboration of the attending physician. 4. Obtain physician consultation for plan of management for any medical or obstetrical complications not addressed in departmental protocols.
