The Registered Nurse assumes primary leadership accountability and responsibility for milieu management and directing patient care activities of other nursing staff.  The Registered Nurse maintains standards of professional nursing practice in accordance with facility policy and procedures, other external governing and credentialing bodies, performance improvement standards, and psychiatric nursing standards.  The Registered Nurse assesses the patient utilizing the nursing process to formulate an individualized plan of care for each patient, implements interventions, and evaluates outcomes consistent with policy and appropriate to the current client’s condition, which promote, maintain, and restore physical and mental health, and prevent illness.  The Registered Nurse interprets age/disability specific information in response to client population served.  The Registered Nurse provides for the safe delivery of medication in accordance with the policies and procedures, physicians orders and/or current practice.  The Registered Nurse is responsible for thorough, accurate reporting, and documentation of the patient’s symptoms, responses, and progress.  The Registered Nurse assumes responsibility for professional development, continuing education and maintaining licensure.  All duties to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and Performance Improvement Standards.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Utilizes the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation and formulating nursing interventions directed towards development of an individualized plan of care and treatment modalities.
  2. Identifies risk levels, precautions, and expected outcomes individualized to the client to include discharge planning; prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes; evaluates the effectiveness of interventions in relation to expected outcomes; conducts ongoing assessment of clients from admission to discharge;  initiates medical/psychiatric crisis intervention to stabilize and ensure the well-being of the patient's conditions.
  3. Demonstrates knowledge of psychiatric disorders and appropriate nursing interventions; implements nursing interventions identified in the plan of care that is individualized to the patient needs.  Applies appropriate interventions to progress the patient towards wellness and addresses maintenance of wellness.
  4. Administers medications as prescribed safely; provides education on prescribed medications; recognizes signs and symptoms of adverse drug reactions.
  5. Demonstrates professionalism, accountability, and responsibility for decision making, quality nursing care, and knowledge base of psychiatric nursing care.
  6. Reviews, revises, and updates medical records within facility guidelines and timeframes.  Transcribes and implements physician's orders according to facility policy; documents care, progress, response to intervention in medical record in an accurate, thorough and concise manner.
  7. Follows up on client care responsibilities, communicates incomplete assignments, and current client needs to staff to assure continuity of care.
  8. Implements staff assignments and delegation of duties using appropriate judgment and knowledge; Demonstrates positive willingness to assist staff and patients; functions as an advocate for patient needs/safety
  9. Utilizes nursing knowledge to successfully meet the needs of the facility, patient population, and staff members utilizes nursing resources to enhance evidence-based practice
  10. Float among various clinical services, where qualified and competent and performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a Oncology Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team! This position will support the Sugar Land, Texas location. This position is Monday-Friday, no weekends or holidays, and no call. This position will be either a level I, II or Senior based on candidate experience. What does the Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) do? Under minimal supervision, the Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, and developmental and age specific differences in the patient population including late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, and the elderly. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to provide for assessment and therapeutic management of patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities The essential duties and responsibilities (including but not limited to): Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices. Assesses health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history. Assesses patient/family needs and provides teaching and other instructional material. Provides psychosocial support to patients and families. Facilitates clinical operations and patient care Manages patient medication refill requests from the pharmacy telephone line and records the information in the patient chart. Facilitates and schedules consultations, pre-testing, diagnostic tests or procedures, referrals and future appointments for patients. Triages patient phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart. As necessary, facilitates communication between patient/family and interdisciplinary team and coordinates services related to patient care. Assist patients in locating available community resources. Inter professional collaboration Acts as a resource to LPN/LVNs and medical assistants. Qualifications The ideal candidate will have the following background and experience: Education/Training Level I Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education, BSN preferred. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must maintain continuing education requirements. Entry level - 0-3 years nursing experience, oncology experience strongly preferred Level II Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience, oncology experience strongly preferred Level Senior In addition to levels I and II: Minimum five (5) years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology strongly preferred Oncology certification preferred Working Conditions: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
