Duke University Hospital is seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse (RN) to join our renowned 6100 Cardiothoracic Stepdown Unit. Job Summary

As a Clinical Nurse (RN) at Duke University Health System, you will:

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required

  • No prior nursing experience required—new graduates encouraged to apply!
    • All Clinical Nurse I (CNI) hires must complete the DUHS Nurse Residency Program within 12 months
    • Eligibility for promotion to CNII within 18 months based on residency program criteria
  • Graduation from an accredited:
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or
    • Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or
    • Nursing Diploma program
  • RNs without a BSN must enroll in a BSN program within 2 years and complete it within 7 years of their start date

 

Licensure & Certifications

  • Current RN licensure with the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or compact RN license (NC licensure required within 60 days of start)
  • BLS certification required (higher certifications preferred)
  • Professional nursing specialty certification preferred

Evaluate/Assess/Educate patient prior to procedures. Alert MD for necessary modifications prior to Cardiac ultrasound procedures. Primary nurse in cardiac diagnostic testing (CDU). Start IV’s prior to procedures – calculate dose, prepare & titrate infusion & monitor patient. Administer Dobutamine, Definity and saline according to orders. Monitor patients during Nuclear Stress testing and echos as needed. Administer medications to patients as ordered by providers or by established protocols following the six rights of medication administration. Assist with IV Lasix therapy as needed. Handle prescription refills according to protocols. Managing and performing PT/INR’s and providing Warfarin education. Maintains department logs, educational materials and reports as required for accreditation and JCAHO (medications, equipment, crash cart). Perform intake with patients to include vital signs, visit information and other clinical information as indicated based on patients assessment and clinic staffing needs. Backup coverage for procedure triage & scheduling as needed. Clinical resource for all Unlicensed Assistive Personnel. Participates in performance improvement projects and/or acts as a liaison in various Clinic related projects. Assist in training new staff for cross-coverage & educational purposes. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
