Responsibilities

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is responsible for performing various patient care activities and accommodative services under the general supervision of a Registered or Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse. Performs patient care activities within the limits of the position. Does not administer medications or therapy. Does not assume independent responsibility for patient care. Job duties are accomplished in a manner consistent with the policies, procedures and guidelines of PAM Health. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

  • Education and Training: High school graduate or equivalent preferred. Certification as a nursing assistant (CNA) where required by state where the hospital resides. Current BLS certification is required.
  • Experience: None required. A minimum of two (2) to three (3) years of experience in an acute hospital, rehabilitation hospital, or skilled nursing unit is preferred.

This position will assist in patient care throughout the nursing areas and/or stay suites is responsible for the safe transport of patients via wheelchair or stretcher, dispatch services and appropriate documentation of services. Provides the services of an observer for any patient on a patient care unit who has been assessed to require constant observation to maximize his/her safety. Give report when leaving the unit, and at the completion of the shift regarding the care that was delivered; any abnormalities that occur during the shift are to be reported to the RN as well as to the oncoming CNA/NA Assist with data collection i.e.. Vital signs, weight, blood sugar, functional status and communicates changes to the RN in a timely fashion. Participate in respectful communication with patients, families and coworkers. Observe skin changes and reports to RN Promote infection control by using appropriate hand washing techniques. Follow standard precautions and any other isolation precautions as dictated by patient condition. Maintain a safe environment and protects patients from injury by observing the patient who may be at risk for falls, confusion, disorientation or suicidal behaviors.
