Facility: Med/Surg | Location: Wilmington, NC, Full-Time | Work Schedule: 7 p.m. - 7 a.m.


What You'll Do

  • Provide compassionate, patient-centered care to adult patients with a variety of medical and surgical conditions.
  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, develop individualized plans of care, and monitor patient progress.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and interventions while assessing and responding to changes in patient condition.
  • Prioritize care and manage multiple patient needs in a fast-paced acute care environment.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and support positive patient outcomes.
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, treatments, and discharge plans.
  • Promote a safe environment while following evidence-based practices, hospital policies, and patient safety standards.

What We're Looking For

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED, required. Graduate of accredited Practical Nursing Program.
  • Experience: One year of relevant experience, preferred. 
  • Licensure/Certification: Appropriate state LPN license, required. NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required. CPI certification within 3 months of hire for Behavioral Health departments, required. 
  • Additional Skills (required): Computer skills, Phone call etiquette and Organizational Skills. Ability to comprehend policies and procedures and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team. Behavioral Health units' requirements only. Ability to intervene in a therapeutic manner for behavior patterns demonstrated by patients with a mental illness, personality disorder, substance abuse or developmental disabilities.
    Knowledge of psychiatric medications, side effects and treatment interventions, knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis, mental health concepts, and evidence based therapeutic interventions and treatments. CPI certification within three months.
    Ability to establish and maintain control of violent patients, defend self and others against violent assaults, ability to react appropriately in psychiatric crises, ability use violent and non-violent restraints per policy and procedure.

How you make a difference The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a vital role in patient care by contributing to the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Working under the supervision of RN(s), the LPN provides direction and guidance in patient education and activities that align with their education and demonstrated competencies. Key Responsibilities Under RN supervision, assesses patients' physical, psychological, and social dimensions in both the Health Care Unit and housing units, contributing to individualized treatment planning and consulting with RNs and staff as needed. Implements treatment programs directed by Health Care Practitioners, administering medications, including IV therapy (if certified), and performing diagnostic tests according to established protocols and procedures. Collaborates in controlled substance counts at the beginning of each shift, adhering to safety techniques, procedures, and standard precautions while responding to codes or health emergencies within standard guidelines. Assists in medical or minor surgical procedures, implements nutrition and therapeutic diet plans, and documents nursing encounters using SOAP charting, ensuring effective communication with nursing staff, physicians, and other relevant personnel. Attends mandatory staff meetings and training sessions, demonstrating a commitment to continuous professional development and adherence to policies and procedures in providing high-quality patient care.
