The Registered Nurse for Patient Placement is responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of the transfer process.  Responsible for coordinating direct admissions and hospital transfers to and from community hospitals with the intent to transfer each patient to an appropriate Tenet hospital.  Works collaboratively to foster relationships with referring facilities, physicians, and hospital staffs in representation of Tenet Healthcare Mission and Values.  Serves as a clinical resource for non-nursing transfer center staff, with responsibility for clinical decisions and appropriate documentation. Maintains working knowledge of EMTALA and other regulations governing patient transfers. Utilizes applicable systems to facilitate bed flow and expedite patient placement. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period.  Other related duties as assigned

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with clinical staff, medical staff and leadership teams to identify, trend and report barriers to patient access and throughput. 
  • Works directly with staff at each client facility to ensure timely access, appropriate bed assignment, and accurate patient information documentation to assist with an appropriate final destination plan of care at receiving facility. 
  • Utilizes applicable system(s) to facilitate bed flow and expedite patient placement within the Baptist Health System.
  • Coordinates the transfer of patients between hospitals within Baptist Health System, as well as from medical facilities outside of the system 
  • Utilizes clinical skills to make decisions regarding placement of patients within the Baptist Health System based on patient need and physician request, in collaboration with house officers, nursing units, administrators on-call and hospital staff. 
  • Maintains awareness of current bed availability at all Baptist Health System facilities on an ongoing basis 
  • Maintains emergency room call roster by updating physician information and changing on-call physicians. 
  • Completes physician Midas reports in a timely manner and notifies risk management if necessary.
  • Updates current bed numbers in WebEOC when necessary. 
  • Serves as a clinical resource to non-nursing staff 

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited school of Nursing  

PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university  

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:  4 years of experience in an acute care setting   

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: ER/Critical Care or in a charge nurse, house supervisor or other management experience.  

REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse
