Schedule: 7:30 am - 6:00 pm, Four 10-hour shifts/week, no weekends
Your role with us
As a medical assistant at Salem Health, you will play a vital role in supporting patient care by performing clinical assessments, facilitating provider-directed care, and ensuring timely documentation and coordination. What you'll do
- Assess patients, recognize changes in condition and promptly communicate critical findings or potential life-threatening situations to the physician.
- Obtain patient histories, vital signs and pertinent clinical information while reassessing patients following therapeutic interventions.
- Prioritize patient care, identify needs outside standard clinic protocols and initiate appropriate interventions to support patient safety.
- Coordinate physician orders, anticipate diagnostic needs and initiate testing according to established protocols.
- Perform waived laboratory testing, quality control and proficiency testing while maintaining required competencies.
- Administer medications within scope of practice while following established medication safety, security and clinic protocols.
- Support efficient patient flow by adapting to changing department needs and collaborating with team members to maintain continuity of care.
- Provide patients and families with clear discharge instructions, follow-up care information and appropriate community resources.
- Maintain clean, safe and well-stocked exam rooms while ensuring appropriate supply rotation.
- Accurately document patient encounters, telephone calls, refill requests and other clinical activities in Epic Ambulatory and assign appropriate facility charges.
Required qualifications
- Certification: Must possess a valid, current Medical Assistant certification or registration from a nationally recognized credentialing agency.
- CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA
- RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
- NCMA (Nationally Certified Medical Assistant) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
- Or an equivalent medical assistant credential.
Additional information
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required within 30 days of hire.
- Candidates will thrive in this role by demonstrating effective interpersonal and communication skills that support clear, respectful interactions across a variety of platforms, including in-person, phone, electronic, and written exchanges.
- Success in this position is supported by a strong foundation in patient care techniques, manual dexterity to carry out clinical procedures safely, and the ability to interpret clinical information accurately through adequate hearing and vision.
- The ability to remain organized while prioritizing tasks in a dynamic environment contributes to smooth clinic operations and patient safety.
- Candidates will also need the physical capability to lift, pull, and reposition patients and equipment—at least 50 pounds unassisted and over 100 pounds with assistance—to ensure safe, effective care delivery.
