Job Responsibilities

  • Providing quality care in post-acute facilities as an RN
  • Going over options for care and observing outcomes with physicians other staff
  • Developing care plans and best options with medical staff and residents
  • Being accountable to follow and adhere to resident care plans
  • Setting up medical equipment and monitoring their use
  • Drawing fluids, such as blood and urine, for lab work
  • Administering appropriate treatments and medications to residents
  • Ensuring proper staff compliance with nursing standards and facility policies
  • Working with residents and family members regarding best care options
  • Supervising and training of nursing and other staff, as needed
  • Making sure resident histories and interventions are properly documented
  • Helping with incident investigations

Qualifications and Skills

  • Current Delaware state license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Successful completion of approved nursing program
  • 6 months of experience (RN or related role)
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
  • Advanced organizational skills

Participate in decision making and takes action based on ethical principles. a) Nursing practice is guided by the ANA Code for Nurses and ethical principles. b) The RN acts as a patient advocate an assists others in developing advocacy skills. c) The RN delivers care in a non-judgmental and nondiscriminatory manner which is sensitive to patient diversity. d) The RN delivers care such that patient’s autonomy, dignity and rights are preserved. Demonstrates the ability to systematically evaluate the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. a) Participates in performance improvement activities within the DI Department. b) Uses the results of performance improvement activities to initiate change in nursing practice, as appropriate. Equipment: a) Monitor all equipment used by the RN staff to ensure working conditions 98% of the time. b) Ensure the results of the area equipment daily JC checks are accurately checked and correctly recorded daily. c) Report problems to Clinical Engineering to ensure that equipment is repaired and operational for scheduled and emergent cases. Plan of Care: a) Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care. b) Evaluate factors related to safety, effectiveness, comparability, availability and cost when choosing between 2 or more options. c) Assist the patient and family to identify and secure appropriate and available services to address healthcare needs. d) Assign or delegate aspects of care utilizing critical thinking to determine the appropriateness of delegating the task, in accordance with the DE State Nurse Practice Act. e) Assign or delegate aspects of care based upon the assessed needs and conditions of the patient, the potential for harm, the stability of the patient's condition, and the competencies of the healthcare provider. Patient Procedures: a) Uses Professional Nursing judgment within the scope of nursing practice to assess patient’s indication for a procedure, evaluates lab studies to determine candidacy for invasive procedures, and reviews chart for any contraindication to a procedure. Reports any discrepancies to a Radiologist for evaluation. b) Adheres to Bayhealth’s policy and 2008 National Patient Safety Goals by ensuring that a pre-procedure “time out” is called to ensure that the right patient is having the right procedure. c) Acts promptly and effectively in handling any unforeseen complications related to procedure. Competently practices ACLS standards for emergency resuscitation and knows indications and proper protocols and procedures for calling a rapid response and code blue.
