Anesthesia Technician - CW CRNA-Nurse Anesthesia - Children's and Women's Hospital

Responsibilities Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values. Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality. Assist with the orientation of new employees. Interact cooperatively with doctors, nurses and other workers in the operating room using effective verbal, auditory and visual communication skills. Assist anesthesiologist and CRNA's as necessary. Communicates regularly with supervisors and other disciplines to maintain anesthesia equipment in good working condition. Maintains accurate inventory and adequate supply of drugs, supplies and equipment in the anesthesia workrooms (including daily check, ordering, and pick up from pharmacy, storeroom and other anesthesia equipment suppliers). Maintains anesthesia equipment in a clean, "ready to use" state(i.e. monitoring devices, infusion pumps, with proper tubing, change batteries where required, maintains gas tanks with tubing and ambu bags and working regulator). Set up IV solutions and blood warmers daily. Cleans and prepares anesthesia work station between cases to include change circuit change suction clean masks, blades, stylets and reusable equipment clean any grossly dirty or bloody anesthesia equipment (Bp cuff, EKG cables or leads, etc) empty trash stock supplies as needed Restocks anesthesia carts and machines daily per inventory sheets. Cleans major equipment thoroughly daily unless circumstances more frequent cleaning. Major equipment: anesthesia machines, all monitors and attachments, anesthesia carts, all monitors and attachments (between each case), bins and drawers. Clean equipment according to proper maintenance requirements and Hospital/OSHA/JCAHO Standards. Remains available to bring extra equipment and supplies to the the Anesthetist in the Operating Room. Keeps the anesthesia workroom clean, neat and orderly. Maintains clean and completely stocked IV carts at all times. Completes charge sheets as directed by Director of Nurse Anesthesia department. Batches anesthesia charges on a daily basis. The Anesthesia Technician departmental responsibilities includes: Requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care essential functions Utilizes proper body mechanics when: Moving equipment and/or supplies weighing up to 50 lbs that are necessary to perform essential functions. Reports broken or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor or department head. Loads and unloads shipments received. Verifies accurate of shipments including biohazard, radioactive substances, by count, size, description and manufacturers' catalog number with information or invoice. Inspects items for damage or defects and records information on freight bill or packing slip. Returns incorrect items and equipment for repair with appropriate paperwork. Pulls and delivers supplies and equipment to departments utilizing rolling carts weighing more than 250 lbs. Delivers patient care electrical equipment to Biomedical Engineering for inspection and proper tagging. Supervises and/or delivers supplies and equipment to departments. Reviews supply usage and adjusts supply cart per level. The anesthesia technician communication responsibilities include: uses appropriate communication skills with physicians, patients, families, and members of the healthcare team in person and via telephone responds to overhead pages Other duties & responsibilities: Participates on committees as assigned. Participates in Performance Improvement activities through quality measurement or participation of ICARE process as assigned. Responsibilities The Assistant Chief will be a support and facilitator for the Chief CRNA. This includes accomplishing departmental goals set by the Chief CRNA and Director of Anesthesia and ensuring Rules/Policies/Procedures for the department are being supported. Will be responsible helping facilitate the day-to-day activities of the anesthesia department in collaboration with the Chief CRNA's direction. Collaborates with the staff CRNAs to develop and implement the myStaff scheduling and staffing plan, with final approval via Chief CRNA. The Assistant Chief CRNA will communicate operational needs to the Chief CRNA and the Medical Director of Anesthesia to ensure proper staffing and help fulfill staffing requirements. Assists with clinical education and career development of staff. Aids with the day-to-day management of the Anesthesia Techs and oversees their scheduling. Assists with the recruitment process, gathering information. Employment interviews will only be conducted via the Chief CRNA. Supports all personnel as valuable assets to the institution; demonstrates strong interpersonal skills; coaches and mentors staff and students. Learns new skills and teaches others. Will work with the Chief CRNA to obtain Class A credits for educational meetings.
