Patient Safety Observer(CNA) -Nights

Position Overview: In the Emergency Room (ER) setting, P atient Safety Observers -play a vital role in maintaining the safety of behavioral health patients. These patients may be experiencing psychiatric crises, suicidal ideation, aggression, or confusion due to mental illness or substance use, and require close monitoring. Position Responsibilities: Continuous Observation Ensure the patient does not harm themselves or others. Remain alert and within sight of the patient at all times. De-escalation and Support Use calm, non-threatening communication. Employ de-escalation techniques when patients are agitated or anxious. Promote a therapeutic environment. Safety Maintenance Monitor for access to harmful objects. Ensure the environment is free of ligature risks and other hazards. Support staff during procedures or transitions (e.g., when restraining is necessary). Communication and Documentation Report changes in behavior promptly to nursing staff. Document patient behavior and activity as per hospital protocols. Assist with patient rounding and updates. Non-Clinical Support Offer comfort measures: hydration, repositioning, or calming conversation. Assist with toileting or ambulation under supervision.
