Position Summary: Functions as a direct patient caregiver performing tasks to assist registered nurses. Performs hands-on care, assistance with ADL’s and specified technical tasks for a group of patients under the supervision of the Team Leader. May also function as a sitter for patients in need of full-time supervision in the hospital. Responsibilities Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration rates, blood pressures, weights, heights, and intake-output measurements. Encourage patients to turn, cough, and take deep breaths and to use incentive spirometry as specified by Plan of Care. Ambulate, and assist patients in and out of bed, into wheelchairs and transport when necessary. Attends to nutritional needs of patient which may include distributing meal trays, feeding, filling and passing out water pitchers, Provides morning or evening care, which may include bed bath, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patient, changing bed linen, cleaning over-bed table and bedside stand, straightening room, and other supportive care as needed. Empty drains, canisters, urine bags, bedpans and emesis basins and record intake and output. Assists in maintaining a safe environment, which may include reporting equipment that is out of order, appropriate handling of linen and storing of supplies. Provides general care such as positioning, lifting or turning patients; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; preoperative supportive care; and application/removal of abdominal binders or anti-embolism stockings and sequential compression devices. Empty & clean ostomy bag, per procedure. Collect urine, stool and sputum specimen as ordered. Perform tasks such as ROM, assist with ambulatory devices as specified by the patients' plan of care. Perform phlebotomy (requires additional training). To include correct labeling using two patient identifiers, maintenance of lab-draw supplies, rotating and restocking. Perform EKG (requires special training). Promptly answer patient call lights and respond to patient requests. Report significant changes in patients' condition to RN. Help to maintain clean and orderly patient and work environment. Employ all established infection control policies including standard precautions, transmission-based isolation precautions, OSHA standards, safety measures and proper body mechanics in performance of job. Document/maintain patient record as appropriate. Gathers equipment for O2 set up. Checks O2 for connection and proper placement. Checks for proper functioning of equipment at patient bedside Ambulate patients with oxygen. Set up suction equipment and check for proper function. Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing for age-specific needs of the population served. Demonstrates ability to perform skills on the Nursing Assistant checklist. Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested. Must be trained and willing to function in a Sitter capacity for patients who need full-time supervision in the hospital. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Education: None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority. Minimum Experience: Hospital experience preferred. Medical terminology a plus. Must be able to operate computer and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly, and perform basic arithmetic computation. Must have understanding and knowledge of patient care which may be appropriately delegated to nursing assistants. Licensure Requirement: CNA Licensure from the State of Tennessee is required upon hire. Job Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides essential nursing care to patients under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs) and in collaboration with the healthcare team. The LPN supports patient care by conducting assessments, administering medications, and implementing care plans. This role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality care in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act, professional standards, and state regulations while contributing to positive patient outcomes. Essential Functions Provides direct patient care under the supervision of an RN, including monitoring vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, and responding to patient needs. Conducts focused patient assessments, identifying and reporting changes in patient conditions to the appropriate team members. Administers medications, treatments, and injections as prescribed, ensuring compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and safety protocols. Assists in the development, implementation, and evaluation of patient care plans. Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient care, interventions, and observations in the medical record. Educates patients and families on health maintenance, medication management, and post-discharge care. Ensures adherence to infection control protocols, safety standards, and healthcare regulations. Assists with basic procedures such as wound care, catheterization, and specimen collection within the scope of practice. Participates in the orientation and training of new staff or nursing students as assigned. Collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure the delivery of coordinated care. Prepares and maintains equipment and supplies necessary for patient care. Responds to medical emergencies and supports code team interventions within the scope of competency. Emergency Services: Support triage and assist with collecting patient history and vitals. Prepare patients for procedures and assist RNs and providers during care. Administer prescribed medications within scope. Provide basic wound care and apply dressings as directed. Assist in stabilizing patients under supervision. OR Services LPN: Prepare patients pre-operatively and assist with surgical prep. Monitor patients in pre-op and post-op under RN supervision. Assist with vital signs, catheter insertion, and surgical checklist procedures. Provide post-operative care including dressing changes and discharge teaching under RN guidance. Cardiac Surgery LPN: Monitor vital signs, perform ECGs, and report abnormal findings to RN or provider. Assist with post-op care such as wound care and activity support. Administer prescribed medications as allowed under LPN scope. Document patient status and support recovery milestones. Endoscopy LPN: Prepare patients for procedures by reviewing intake forms and obtaining vitals. Assist in positioning patients and providing emotional support. Monitor patients during recovery and provide post-procedure education under RN guidance. Clean and restock procedure rooms and ensure equipment is prepped. Obstetrics/Labor and Delivery/Postpartum/Nursery LPN: Assist with maternal vital sign monitoring and postpartum care. Provide newborn care including bathing, feeding support, and diaper changes. Administer prescribed medications to mothers and newborns within scope. Support breastfeeding education and routine screenings under RN direction. Assist with documentation and family education. Oncology LPN: Provide supportive care including medication administration, hygiene, and comfort. Monitor for side effects and report findings to RN or provider. Offer emotional support and reinforce education provided by RNs. Assist with central line dressing changes (if trained) and symptom tracking. Orthopedics LPN: Assist with mobility, transfers, and use of assistive devices. Apply braces, splints, or slings as directed. Provide pain medication as prescribed. Monitor neurovascular status and report changes. Support patient education and discharge instructions under RN guidance. Telemetry LPN: Record and report cardiac telemetry readings (but do not interpret them). Monitor vital signs and provide basic care. Administer medications and support patients with cardiac diagnoses. Report any changes in rhythm or condition to the RN or provider. Overview Medical Assistant | Licensed Practical Nurse, Knoxville Heart Group Full Time, 72 Hours Per Pay Period, Day Shift Covenant Medical Group Overview: Covenant Medical Group is the employed and managed medical practice organization of Covenant Health, providing comprehensive care across East Tennessee. Position Summary: Under general supervision, performs basic nursing procedures on patients. Assists physicians or practitioners with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care. Responsibilities Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Assessment program, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Performs basic nursing procedures such as measuring patient height and weight according to oncology best practice, taking vital signs, and completing ambulatory intake. Performs venipunctures and injections, as indicated and allowed by scope of practice. Interviews and retrieves initial basic evaluation of patient, inputs information into EMR, and reports to appropriate practitioner. Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families during visit; demonstrates sensitivity to patient's comfort and privacy by using the AIDET fundamentals of communication. Assists physicians or practitioners with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and necessary equipment. Monitors and ensures accuracy of recording on patient's medical records. Maintains all required reports, statistics, etc. Assists with medical record requests and scanning of documentation into medical record. Inspects area daily for compliance with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards and takes corrective action when appropriate. Assists with cleaning and re-stocking examination rooms on a daily basis. Transports instruments to sterile processing as needed. Assists with chart prep and provider schedule management. Assists with provider support role as assigned. Supports through assistance with note prep, verbal order entry (per scope of practice and leadership guidelines), order proposal, and prescription refill management. Competent at reception role – includes professional scripting when answering calls, appropriate documentation of message in message pools, and real-time scheduling/rescheduling of appointments. Demonstrates competence in performing critical skills to include appropriate delivery of care according to age-specific needs of the population served. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops. Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintains good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies. Attends meetings as required. Works with a positive attitude; supports a positive work environment including teamwork within their immediate department and outside their department; and exhibits initiative daily to progress the care for our patients and the success of the department.
