Job Objectives: Functions as a direct patient caregiver performing tasks to assist registered nurses. Performs hands-on care, assistance with ADL’s and specified technical tasks for a group of patients under the supervision of an RN or Team Leader. Responsibilities Take and record temperature, pulse, respiration rates, blood pressures, weights, heights, and intake-output measurements. Encourage patients to turn, cough, and take deep breaths and to use incentive spirometry as specified by Plan of Care. Ambulate, and assist patients in and out of bed, into wheelchairs and transport when necessary. Attends to nutritional needs of patient which may include distributing meal trays, feeding, filling and passing out water pitchers, Provides morning or evening care, which may include bed bath, oral hygiene, combing hair, back care, dressing patient, changing bed linen, cleaning over-bed table and bedside stand, straightening room, and other supportive care as needed. Empty drains, canisters, urine bags, bedpans and emesis basins and record intake and output. Assists in maintaining a safe environment, which may include reporting equipment that is out of order, appropriate handling of linen and storing of supplies. Provides general care such as positioning, lifting or turning patients; assisting in use of bedpan, urinal or commode; preoperative supportive care; and application/removal of abdominal binders or anti-embolism stockings and sequential compression devices. Empty & clean ostomy bag, per procedure. Collect urine, stool and sputum specimen as ordered. Perform tasks such as ROM, assist with ambulatory devices as specified by the patients' plan of care. May perform phlebotomy (requires additional training). To include correct labeling using two patient identifiers, maintenance of lab-draw supplies, rotating and restocking. May perform EKG (requires special training). Promptly answer patient call lights and respond to patient requests. Report significant changes in patients' condition to RN. Help to maintain clean and orderly patient and work environment. Employ all established infection control policies including standard precautions, transmission-based isolation precautions, OSHA standards, safety measures and proper body mechanics in performance of job. Document/maintain patient record as appropriate. Gathers equipment for O2 set up. Checks O2 for connection and proper placement. Checks for proper functioning of equipment at patient bedside Ambulate patients with oxygen. Set up suction equipment and check for proper function. Demonstrates knowledge and competency in providing for age-specific needs of the population served. Demonstrates ability to perform skills required of the position. Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Experience: Hospital experience preferred. Medical terminology a plus. Must be able to operate computer and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Must be able to read with comprehension, write legibly, and perform basic arithmetic computation. Must have understanding and knowledge of patient care which may be appropriately delegated to nursing assistants. We cover a 4 room Advance Family Surgery center within walking distance of the main hospital. Anesthesiologists are performing anesthesia interviews, placing central lines, placing peripheral nerve blocks, and are readily available for assistance during cases. They routinely come in for induction and emergence. Optional for CRNA’s to perform own spinals in OB. Optional CRNAs to do epidurals. All case types performed except transplants. Limited pediatrics at the main. A good mix of healthy surgery center peds cases. Wide range of general, cardiac, ortho, neuro, GYN, urology, podiatry, ENT, endoscopy, and robotic services. Anesthesia sites include Methodist Medical Center, Advance Family Surgery Center, and Endoscopy Center of Oak Ridge. AC T model with supervision. MDs routinely come in for assistance on induction and emergency. Compensation Details: Lots of potential for additional earning above base salary for those willing to pick up. Easily make another 10-15k in OT. Late pool averages about 2 late shifts per week and 4 weekends per year. Options to work regular day off or vacation days at a premium internal locum rate. Work Environment: The Heart/Lung/Vascular medical/surgical environment provides care of adult patients experiencing primarily pulmonary healthcare concerns. Frequently observed ailments include COPD exacerbation, respiratory viruses, asthma, bronchitis, etc. The IMC is a brand new 21-bed critical care step down unit that provides enhanced nursing services for patients that are too sick to be safely provided care on a medical/surgical unit but may not be in need of the monitoring available in the ICU. Our patients in the IMC are mixed acuity, which means you may encounter cardiovascular, neurological, respiratory, urological, gastrointestinal, or endocrine step down patients. How does scheduling work? Scheduling is observed in a four-week period. The nurse manager inputs the schedule and pays close attention to staff requests including desired schedule patterns and vacation times. Job Objectives: Assumes direct responsibility and accountability for, and authority of, the nursing care of all patients assigned. Responsibilities Assesses and identifies the patient's physiological and psycho-social problems and needs. Develops an individualized plan of nursing care for each patient in which goals, in terms of measurable outcomes, are stated. Ensures that nursing care plan is consistent with the medical plan and adheres to accepted current standards of care and practice. Makes appropriate assignments to team members by utilizing patient acuity data, and maintains accountability for members under his/her direction. Ensures nursing care adheres to current hospital/departmental policies, procedures, and regulations. Demonstrates principles of infection control and collaborates with infection control nurse to ensure safety of patients, staff, and visitors. Participates in the orientation of new personnel. Assists clinical instructors in providing learning experiences for nursing students. Documents review and/or revision of each assigned patient's plan of care at least every 24 hours. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education/Knowledge/Skills: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
