Overview Specializes in providing primary, acute, chronic, and critical care to neonates and high risk infants from birth to 2 years of life. Must come on site for 40 hours per week. Provides 24-call coverage responsibilities 2 weeks per month, starting at 7am to 7am next day. Must come on site, when requested, for the following deliveries: thick (particulate) meconium stained amniotic fluid, premature infants < 36 weeks gestation, stat C-section for abruption, placenta previa, prolapsed cord, or suspected fetal distress, vaginal delivery for suspected fetal distress, multiple births, or care provider requests. Orders, interprets, and records results of clinical tests and reports results to physicians. Prescribes medications and makes recommendations for other therapeutic forms of treatment. Ensures compliance with established standards, practices and regulatory requirements. Maintains effective communication with physicians, staff, and collaborating physicians. Maintains or exceeds targeted expectations in reference to patient satisfaction, clinical and financial outcomes. Promotes positive physician and interdepartmental relations including positive employee morale. Responsibilities Attend high-risk deliveries and provide medical management as a member of multi-disciplinary group. Provides medical management as a member of the multi-disciplinary team to well babies up to two years of age and babies in the Level II nursery. Conducts comprehensive health history and physical assessment of patients with acute health problems. Institutes discharge planning guidelines and completes discharge summary. Performs admission history and physical, develops, manages, and modifies treatment plans. Order and initiate interpretation of diagnostic testing and therapeutic modalities such as laboratory tests, medications, hemodynamic monitoring, treatments, x-ray, EKG, IV fluids and electrolytes, etc. Affiliation with medical staff: The exercise of these privileges requires a designated collaborating/supervising physician with clinical privileges at the hospital in the same area of specialty practice. In the case of emergency, any medical staff appointee is authorized to do anything possible to save a patient's life or save a patient from serious harm. A practitioner exercising such emergency privileges is obligated to arrange for all consultative assistance deemed necessary and to arrange for appropriate follow-up. Provides training to nursing staff and physicians regarding Level II newborn assessment and management. Will provide care in a Level III Nursery for 240 hours per year to maintain competency.
