Overview Ensures coordination and continuity of patient care for adolescent through geriatric patients who have long term or difficult vascular access needs in order to maintain organized and efficient care and provide support to staff and other health care professionals. Provides consultation, direction, and education related to assigned patient population to nursing staff and other health care professionals, patients and family members. Qualifications Required Education Associate’s degree in Nursing required. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. New hires effective June 14, 2017 , must obtain a BSN degree within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. New hires or transfers between August 1, 2013, and June 13, 2017 , must follow the education requirements outlined in their offer letter and signed job description. Employees hired or transferred before August 1, 2013 , are grandfathered under previous requirements. Preferred Education Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Required Licensure/Certifications Current Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license . BLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. ACLS certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Completion of USGPIV and Powerglide Midline Catheter HealthStream training within 6 months of hire or transfer. Preferred Licensure/Certifications Certified PICC Ultrasound Inserter ( CPUI ). Vascular Access Board Certified ( VA-BC ). Required Experience 1–2 years of practical clinical nursing experience. Preferred Experience 2+ years of clinical vascular access experience. Necessary Skills Knowledge of: Patient care and basic human needs across the lifespan. Medical terminology. Aseptic techniques. Ability to insert vascular access devices (VADs) with and without ultrasound guidance, including: Review medical records for contraindications. Select appropriate devices based on medications, diagnosis, current access, and expected length of IV therapy. Assess vascular patency. Perform insertions according to current Infusion Therapy Standards of Practice. Ability to provide care and manage complications related to vascular access devices, including: Declotting VADs. Dressing changes for PICCs and other central lines. Ability to perform vascular access device audits, including: Site assessments. Limb measurements. Evaluation of tubing, securement devices, and dressings. Ability to accurately document VAD insertions, maintenance, and related procedures in the EMR. Overview Provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process; performs technical nursing functions; and upholds the standard of practice of a professional nurse in caring for patients. The Registered Nurse is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and functions as charge nurse when assigned. The Registered Nurse directs, delegates and coordinates all nursing care provided throughout the hospital. Assignments are performed appropriately to age and developmental level of patients being served. Qualifications Age of Patients Served: Adult (18-64 years) Geriatric (=>65 years) Required Education: Associate's Degree. Specific course work: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. New hires or transfers into in the position between August 1, 2013 and June 13, 2017 must abide with the conditions in his or her offer letter and the verbiage in the job description signed upon hire or transfer into the position. Current employees who were hired or transferred into the position prior to August 1, 2013 will be grandfathered. Preferred Education: BSN Necessary Skills: 1. Adheres to hospital and Florida Nurse Practice Act guidelines in providing patient care. 2. Familiar with patient care equipment. Required Licensure/Certifications: -Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida -BLS from the American Heart Association -Effective November 1, 2018, Oncology Nursing Society/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation Chemotherapy Biotherapy certification required within eighteen (18) months of hire or transfer into the position. Required Experience: Less than one year related experience. Preferred Experience: 1-2 years of Oncology experience.
