JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Work Shift: Mon - Fri variable hours Summary of the Job : To provide medical assistance to the physician/nurse practitioner in a professional manner and to provide for patients in a caring, efficient and compassionate manner. To handle patient phone calls and care of patients in the office. Perform EKG's and CLIA waived test as appropriate. Minimum Qualifications : High School diploma. Must have good working knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 Coding. Current BLS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off. Must be able to maintain composure under difficult and stressful conditions. Must be able to maintain confidentiality and be able to work independently with little supervision. Displays tact and diplomacy in inter-personal skills. Keeps BLS Certification current at all times. LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse diploma from an accredited school. Current Licensed Practical Nursing license. Maintains annual and continuing education credits; keeps license current at all times. Medical Assistant: Accredited Medical Assistant Program Certification or equivalent on the job training consisting of 3 or more years. Completion of an accredited medical assistant program preferred. Two to five years of experience in a physician office setting preferred. Preferred Qualifications : Physician’s office experience preferred. Experience with EPIC (EMR) a plus along with insurance processes required within a clinical setting. Physical Demands: Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise. Conducts specified bedside laboratory tests, wound care, and provides for comfort and assistance in the performance of ADLs; Promotes the patient's ability to cope, adapt and/or solve situations related to illness and/or stressors. Provides supportive, age appropriate communication and culturally acceptable interventions and documents special needs. Provides for the safe delivery of medications in accordance with the facility policies and physician orders; administers medications utilizing established safety procedures / standards. Ensures patients are effectively assessed prior to and after medication administration. Accurately communicates/documents medication doses prescribed, and provides patient education on medication administered. Follows up on patient care responsibilities; communicates incomplete assignments and patient needs with other disciplines to assure continuity of care; transcribes orders accurately and performs chart audits of transcription accurately and according to facility guidelines. Utilizes nursing knowledge to successfully meet the needs of the facility, patient population and staff members. Utilizes nursing resources to enhance evidence-based practice. Guides, educates, and provides leadership as a preceptor to new staff. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
