Position Summary The Certified Medication Aide is responsible for the safe administration of medications under the supervision of a licensed nurse while assisting with resident care and maintaining accurate documentation. Essential Responsibilities Administer medications accurately and safely according to physician orders and facility policies. Verify resident identity before medication administration and observe residents for medication effectiveness and potential adverse reactions. Accurately document medication administration and promptly report medication refusals, errors, or changes in resident condition. Review Medication Administration Records (MARs) to ensure completeness and accuracy. Assist with medication inventory, storage, and ordering while maintaining proper security and accountability for medications, including controlled substances. Communicate effectively with licensed nurses, physicians, pharmacy staff, residents, and family members regarding medication-related concerns. Assist residents with activities of daily living as needed and provide compassionate, resident-centered care. Maintain compliance with infection prevention, HIPAA, and all federal, state, and facility regulations. Promote a clean, safe, and respectful environment for residents, visitors, and team members. Perform additional duties as assigned by nursing leadership. Qualifications Current North Carolina Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification required. Current North Carolina Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in good standing preferred. Current CPR certification required. Previous experience in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting is preferred. Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer proficiency and experience with electronic health records preferred. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Ensure that no medication is administered without a written, signed and dated order from an attending licensed physician. Verify the identity of the resident before administering the medication/treatment. Verify that prescribed medication for one resident is not administered to another. Observe and verify that medication is ingested or applied, as directed. Document any instance where prescribed medication is not administered, including reason(s) for refusal. Assist with medication charting as directed by the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse, as directed. Verify that adequate supply of floor stock medications, supplies, and equipment is on hand to meet the nursing needs of the residents. Report needs to the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse. Order prescribed medications, supplies, and equipment as necessary, and in accordance with established procedures. Verify that narcotic records are accurate for your shift. Follow facility policies and procedures regarding the destruction of medications. Notify the Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse of all drug and narcotic discrepancies noted on your shift. Review medication cards for completeness of information, accuracy in the transcription of the physician’s order and adherence to stop order policies . What you need: Current Medication Aide Certification or Current Nursing Assistant Certification from NC. Must have a current/active CPR certification. Effective verbal and written English communication skills. Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook, Internet and Intranet navigation. Highest level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to communicate at all levels of organization and work well within a team environment in support of company objectives. Customer service oriented with the ability to work well under pressure. Strong attention to detail and accuracy, excellent organizational skills with ability to prioritize, coordinate and simultaneously maintain multiple projects with high level of quality and productivity.
