Overview NaphCare is seeking a part-time Nurse Practitioner (NP) to work weekends on Saturdays and Sundays in Des Moines, IA. Join our team of healthcare professionals providing comprehensive medical care for individuals currently incarcerated at Polk County Jail. As a Correctional Nurse Practitioner, you will collaborate with correctional officers and other healthcare staff to deliver quality care to inmates. Working in a secure environment where safety is a priority, you will perform assessments, diagnose and treat a variety of medical conditions and chronic illnesses, prescribe medications, and respond to emergencies. Responsibilities Job Duties / Responsibilities The Nurse Practitioner plays a critical role in our continued mission to provide quality care that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our unique patient population. Duties and responsibilities may include and are not limited to: Conducting physical examinations, developing treatment plans and monitoring patients Managing acute and chronic conditions such as asthma, hypertension, and diabetes. Administering medications and providing instructions to patients Monitoring and documenting patient health including vital signs, medical histories. Providing direct patient care, triaging, assessing patient needs, developing care plans, and coordinating services. Responding to medical emergencies, providing first aid, and ensuring timely transport to appropriate healthcare facilities. Educating patients on preventative care, healthy lifestyle choices, and substance abuse prevention. Understanding and adhering to correctional facility security protocols, while working closely with correctional officers and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the safety and well-being of patients. Maintaining accurate medical records, documenting treatment plans, and reporting any relevant information. Conducting rounds, evaluating patients returning from off-site treatment Admitting and discharging patients from the facility Qualifications Experience / Requirements / Qualifications Advanced nursing education (Master's or Doctorate) Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner Must hold a current unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner in IA Current DEA registration An appropriate collaborative agreement with the on-site Physician Must possess an active BLS CPR Certification (American Heart Association preferred) Be certified in a Board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening Experience / Skills Knowledge of nursing practice principles and techniques, occupational health and safety standards, infectious disease management, applicable health care laws, regulations, and procedures for direct health care services. Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills Able to work independently and in a team Experience working in a correctional facility or acute care center is a plus Integrity, professionalism and ability to adhere to a Code of Conduct and comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements Physical Capabilities: Must have the ability to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks like CPR, all while maintaining good balance and endurance throughout a shift. Description The Iowa Primary Care Association is actively recruiting a PRN Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide care for a migrant farmworker clinic program in Des Moines, IA ! About The Migrant Farmworker Program Farmworkers perform difficult labor and are in the fields from early morning until late evening, sometimes seven days a week. Such a schedule does not facilitate access to health care services. There are also language barriers and transportation issues. Health care clinics are scheduled in locations where farmworkers are working and living, during the hours when workers are available for services. In these locations, workers receive vital exams such as blood pressure, temperature, height and weight, and blood profiling to check for anemia, cholesterol, and diabetes. All patients are able to have a complete physical exam. Take advantage of this unique to opportunity provide healthcare to the migrant farm workers of Iowa! Role Details Hours: Day of the week is flexible Monday-Friday + once a month Saturday clinic; Ideally 1 day per week with 4 hours of clinic + charting time Clinic Info: 2 exam rooms, lab draw room, 340b pharmacy, point of care lab machines. 45 minutes for new patient, 30 minutes for follow up Team Lead, Health Aide and Receptionist to support this position. Potential to work at other mobile locations if desired. EHR: Ochin Epic Duties Travel to farmworker job sites and provide primary care services via a mobile clinic. Perform primary care including conduct health histories and physicals, diagnose, determine course of action, order labs and tests, interpret results within scope of practice. Primarily adult patient population. Bilingual in Spanish strongly desired.
