Understands and recognizes the different surgical instruments and their applications. Displays appropriate knowledge of Anatomy and Physiology to prepare and assist in surgical procedures. Maintains a safe sterile field by a – positioning sharps correctly b – labeling all medications on sterile field c – understanding of electrocautery and other devices that generate heat to prevent possible fires in the O.R. d – Participating in a “timeout” with rest of the surgical team to maintain patient safety. Reviews billing processes with patient and/or family advising patient and/or family when co-pay or Medicare is not likely to pay for services.
