Overview About the Role The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse - Surgical ACS position is to provide patient care (neonate to maturity) based on the identified individualized needs of assigned patients and families within the clinical nursing role. The Staff Nurse will assess, screen, evaluate, educate, and provide care management/outcome management in accordance with professional nursing standards and patient needs. The role of the Staff Nurse also includes practice/office support. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Independently obtains health histories and provides assessments or screenings as indicated on selected patient population; triage to appropriate health care provider. Utilizing knowledge of growth and development, assesses the physical, psychological, socio-cultural, social-economic and spiritual status of assigned patients in accordance with UH and ACC standards. Implements and evaluates patient individualized medical plan of care based on assessment of chronological age, developmental level and desired outcome. Provides independent/interdependent/dependent procedural care in accordance with Nursing scope of practice and provides complex nursing skills and clinical judgment as indicated. Provides direct patient care or directs other health team members to ensure proper implementation of medical/nursing plan of care. Plans and coordinates patient care within external clinical environments i.e. home care. Orients and is resource to nursing staff and ancillary staff / students, as assigned or as appropriate. Teaches patient/significant others about health / illness state and plan of care. Develops and/or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with University Hospital standard and State/Federal regulation. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Required: Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. BLS (CPR) is required. Candidates lacking current BLS (CPR) Certification must obtain certification prior to start date of employment. Preferred: Certification in area of Medical Surgical, OB/GYN, Diabetes, Adolescent/Pediatrics, or Operating Room Nursing preferred. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with a BSN preferred. Overview Carries out patient care responsibilities with emphasis on decision-making related to the steps in the nursing process to include assessment, diagnosis, and identification of expected outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides competent, safe and compassionate care based on established BronxCare Health System Patient Care and Nursing Standards. As a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, formulates the initial plan of care with the provider (physician or nurse practitioner) and collaborates with them to implement a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care to achieve expected outcomes; utilizes principles of assignment and delegation consistent with the NY State Nurse Practice Act. Posting internally from 10/16-10/30 Responsibilities Provides professional nursing care to patients within unit. Diagnose and treat response to actual or potential health problems by means of nursing techniques and methods such as case finding, health teaching, health counseling and the provision of care supportive to and restorative of health and well-being. Maintain safe levels of care while adhering to a medical regimen. Collaborates with the physician and other health care providers to assure that a goal oriented care plan is consistent with medical regimen and hospital procedures. Performs other related duties as instructed. Qualifications BSN with three (3) years’ experience preferred. Current NYS license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse. BLS Required. Bilingual Preferred: English/Spanish.
