Overview About the Role The Staff Nurse (Cancer Center) is responsible for delivering comprehensive, patient-centered care tailored to the unique needs of each individual and their family, in alignment with professional nursing standards. This role involves applying specialized knowledge in chemotherapy and/or radiation oncology to assess, screen, educate, and manage care for adult patients receiving treatment through Outpatient Oncology Services. The nurse also supports clinical operations and office functions, demonstrating flexibility and teamwork by rotating across various Oncology Service Departments as needed. A solid understanding of University Hospital, Joint Commission, and Department of Health regulations is essential. Additionally, the nurse actively contributes to evidence-based practice, quality assurance, and performance improvement initiatives. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Provides comprehensive, individualized patient care in alignment with professional nursing standards. Specializes in chemotherapy and/or radiation oncology procedures. Assesses, screens, evaluates, educates, and manages care for adult patients in Outpatient Oncology Services. Supports both clinical practice and office operations. Contributes to quality assurance (QA) and performance improvement (PI) initiatives. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Must hold a current license to practice nursing in the State of New Jersey. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare professionals required. Minimum of two (2) years of full-time hospital experience preferred. Prior oncology nursing experience preferred. Required certifications (must be obtained within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment): Oncology Nursing Society (ONS)/ONCC Provider Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate and/or Radiation Therapy Certificate. IV/Venous Access Device Certification. National Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification preferred. Must be available to work predetermined flexible hours. Responsibilities What You’ll Do Plans, implements and evaluates individualized care based on patient assessment, medical plan of care and the age and/or thedevelopmental stages of the patient. Performs nursing procedures and clinical tasks specific to diagnostic and interventional cardiology patients. Provides direct patient care in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Ensures quality of care as observed by the Nurse Manager/Assistant Nurse Manager and supported by patient and family feedback. Provides direct patient care or direction and supervision to other health team members to ensure proper implementation of aplan for the health/illness state and a plan of care. Qualifications What You’ll Bring Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey. Minimum of one (1) year of experience required in: Special procedures, or Radiology, or Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Applicants with at least one (1) year of recent experience in the following will also be considered: Critical Care Telemetry Emergency Department Current ACLS and BLS certifications required. Newly hired Cath Lab nurses must complete 6–8 weeks of Cath Lab procedure training with an experienced nurse preceptor. Overview Carries out patient care responsibilities with emphasis on decision-making related to the steps in the nursing process to include assessment, diagnosis, and identification of expected outcomes, planning, implementation and evaluation. Provides competent, safe and compassionate care based on established BronxCare Health System Patient Care and Nursing Standards. As a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, formulates the initial plan of care with the provider (physician or nurse practitioner) and collaborates with them to implement a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care to achieve expected outcomes; utilizes principles of assignment and delegation consistent with the NY State Nurse Practice Act. Collaborates with the physician and other health care providers to assure that a goal oriented care plan is consistent with medical regimen and hospital procedures.
