Position Responsibilities · Prepares the OR suite appropriately to receive a new admission. · Evaluates, assesses and documents patient’s surgical status. · Assists anesthesia in maintaining intake and output, checks availability of blood products and checks blood products with anesthesia before administering. Document blood administration and assures accuracy. · Demonstrates ability to handle difficult situations, and appropriate usage of safety measures. · Monitors, evaluates and intervenes appropriately with patients receiving conscious sedation. · Competent in application of safety positioning devices, providing ongoing observation, intervention and documentation as per hospital policy. · Maintains thorough knowledge of operation, care and handling of O.R equipment. Establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs as evidence by completion of assigned duties within shift. · Performs Pre-Operative and Post-Operative care and instruction for each assigned surgical patient during shift. · Performs dressing changes using aseptic technique. · Collects and labels specimens per policy when ordered by physician. · Performs bedside glucose monitoring according to policy, performs ostomy care to include irrigation, appliance usage and reinforcement of teaching. · Inserts intermittent or indwelling urinary catheter using aseptic technique. · Administers oxygen therapy according to physician order. · Transfer patients in/out of the GI station in an efficient manner, by obtaining a complete and correct set of physician orders.
