The University of Miami/UHealth Bascom Palmer Eye Institute has an exciting opportunity for a per diem Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) in Miami. The CRNA prepares prescribed solutions and administers anesthetic following specified methods and procedures. Moreover, the incumbent works in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and other physicians and medical professionals to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures. CORE JOB FUNCTIONS Preforms pre and post anesthesia patient visits and documents anesthesia notes on patient records. Reviews medical history, evaluating patients and determining proper methods of anesthesia. Performs or evaluate diagnostic tests, such as radiographs (x-rays) and electrocardiograms (EKG’s). Measures and monitors the level and speed at which anesthesia is administered. Monitors patient vital signs to ensure safety, to include skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ventilation or urine output. Informs physician of patient’s condition during anesthesia. Manages patients’ airway or pulmonary status using techniques, such as endotracheal intubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, respiratory therapy, and extubation. Oversees patient recovery from anesthesia and cares for patient’s immediate post-operative needs. Prepares prescribed solutions and administers local, intravenous, spinal or other anesthetics following specified methods and procedures. Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering fluids or drugs, and using basic or advanced life support techniques. Develops anesthesia care plans. Participates in quality improvement initiatives and performs other duties as assigned by the Division Chief. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS Conduct comprehensive history and physical examinations for new and follow-up pediatric neurology patients. Evaluate, diagnose, and manage pediatric patients with neurological conditions in collaboration with supervising physicians. Order, interpret, and follow up on appropriate laboratory tests, imaging, and other diagnostic studies. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medication management, referrals, and follow-up care. Provide patient and family education regarding neurological conditions, treatment plans, medications, and community resources. Counsel patients and families on disease management, care coordination, and available support services. Perform approved clinical procedures within scope of practice and competency, including developmental and behavioral assessments such as the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), as applicable. Coordinate multidisciplinary care, including referrals, discharge planning, durable medical equipment (DME), prior authorizations, and other care coordination activities. Complete medical documentation, disability forms, school forms, insurance prior authorizations, FMLA paperwork, and other required clinical documentation. Document patient encounters, complete coding and billing, and submit charges in a timely manner in accordance with departmental and institutional policies. Respond to urgent clinical issues and patient concerns as appropriate. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, departmental meetings, and other clinical activities as assigned.
