Description The Clinical Nurse is a Registered Professional Nurse who provides safe, competent quality care based on nursing theory and research to a designated group of patients and significant others. Responsibilities Patient Care 1. Delivers patient care by incorporating the tenets of the professional practice model of Relationship Centered Care and through the application of the nursing process based upon theory, research, evidence-based practice, and approved organizational nursing standards. 2. Carrying and responding to the oncology on-call pager from 7:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on scheduled weekday evenings and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on scheduled Saturdays and Sundays. Evaluating and managing IV contrast reactions associated with CT and MRI imaging during after-hours operations through 11:00 p.m. Providing urgent after-hours evaluation and treatment for cancer-specific concerns when clinically appropriate. Coordinating escalation of care, emergency department evaluation, hospital admission, or other services when indicated. Providing clinical support and coordination for blood transfusion needs and treatment-related complications. Providing in-basket coverage and management as assigned. Patients are triaged, admitted, stabilized, delivered or transferred to a level III facility as appropriate. Post Partum: The Postpartum unit is responsible for the post-delivery care of mothers and their infants, low risk antepartum and clean gyn surgeries. Staff on this unit assist with breastfeeding and education while monitoring the healing and recuperation of new mothers. Staff on this unit are also responsible for maintaining the health of the mother and baby while monitoring any complications that arise during the postpartum period and ensure that mothers have a smooth transition from hospital to home. Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): The level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a new 15-bed unit. The NICU can care for very preterm, 28 weeks' gestation, to term infants that require additional support. The range of medical conditions include but are not limited to respiratory support, feeding assistance, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome, glucose instability, and antibiotic therapy. NICU RNs attend all high-risk deliveries and assist with initial assessments as needed. Staff RNs provide evidence-based care and place special emphasis on skin-to-skin, breastfeeding, and safe sleep practices. Liberty Birthing Center: The Liberty Birthing Center is a 9-bed LDRP (labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum all in one room) unit and includes a level II special care nursery with 4 private beds and 2 open beds. There is a 4-bed triage/post-partum area as well. This unit is also equipped with 2 ORs that include a family viewing room. The Christ Hospital Medical Center at Liberty Township is a newer facility with a strong emphasis on patient and family-centered care.
