Provides direct intraoperative patient care by functioning as the primary scrub person during operative procedures. Acts as a mentor to surgical technologists performing scrub duties on service-specific cases, promoting consistency and skill development. Collaborates with the RN Service Line Coordinator to standardize instrumentation, maintain accurate preference cards, and ensure efficient case preparation. Assists in the oversight, care, and monitoring of service-specific equipment and supply inventory and to support safe and effective surgical operations. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Associate Degree in Healthcare Field AND seven (7) years of Surgical Technolog ist experience OR High School Diploma A ND nine (9) years of Surgical Technolog ist experience 2. Surgical Technologist certification 3. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: 1. Advanced knowledge of three specialties. Serves as a mentor and resource to team members, providing orientation, in-services, and performance feedback. 6. Plans onboarding assignments for new surgical technologists in collaboration with the RN coordinator. 7. Leads audits and supports quality initiatives including tray reviews, preference card updates, and inventory accuracy. 8. Oversees supply management, equipment checks, and removal of expired or damaged items per policy. 9. Participates in schedule reviews and leads turnover efforts to enhance procedural flow and efficiency. 10. Coordinates with surgeons on equipment needs, onboarding, and service-specific setup. 11. Contributes to clinical documentation, data tracking, charge capture, and clerical support as needed. 12. Represents the surgical tech team in unit projects, product trials, and cross-functional meetings. 13. Demonstrates professionalism, initiative, and leadership in daily practice. 14. Provides coaching and mentorship to team members, supports onboarding and skill development, and contributes to performance evaluations to foster continuous growth and team success. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Advanced knowledge in desired specialty. Utilizes quality aseptic technique when working in an unsterile or sterile role in the OR. 2. Assists the circulating RN in monitoring technique of all persons in the OR to maintain a sterile field. 3. Performs sponge, instrument, and needle counts with the circulating RN following established guidelines. 4. Assists with gowning and gloving surgeons and positioning equipment and instruments. 5. Passes sterile instruments to the surgical team during a surgical procedure. 6. Assists with transportation and positioning of the patients to include assisting the surgical team by holding retractors and position of operative limb under direction of surgeon. 7. Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards. 8. Assists with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment. 9. Monitors inventory; orders; and restocks supplies, instruments, and equipment. 10. Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses following established guidelines. 11. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department. 12. Performs equipment checks as assigned. 13. Assists with the proper recording of patient charges. 14. Call with a response time of 30 minutes. 15. Serves as a mentor to the team and supports the development of level one technologists For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements: 1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards . Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings , In-services, and competency validation. Overview Owns specific responsibilities for maintenance and policies for various responsibilities within the Operating Room. Takes direction from management of specific tasks to support operating rooms that are of the highest level of quality and safety, in meeting the needs of key doctors, surgeons, and other critical Operating Room staff. Special Instructions Certified surgical technician Monday-Friday 11:30am-8pm Responsibilities • Sets up tables, instruments and supplies required for specific operation. Carries out surgical asepsis. • Assists surgical team during operative procedure. • Assists in the preparation for surgical procedures. • Assists in the preoperative preparation of patients. • Assists with table equipment, positioning of patients, application of plaster casts and dressings. • Prepares operative specimens, places in preservative solution and delivers to Laboratory for analysis. • Assists in transporting patients to and from the Operating Room, Recovery Room, and patient area. • Assists in cleaning operating room, equipment and instruments following surgery. • Cleans and stocks storage room. • Prepares Operating Room for the next case or next day. • Records data on patients' record data sheets and O.R. logs. • Must rotate on call as required. • Performs duties of Nursing Aide as requested, when O.R. is not busy. • Performs other related duties as required. • Performs other duties as assigned. • Complies with all policies and standards. Qualifications Education • High School Diploma required. Experience • One (1) to three (3) years of experience preferred. Licenses & Certifications • Grade 10: Two years' experience as an O.R.T. including successful completion of hospital sponsored self-instructional program in operating room technology as well as documented clinical hours; OR • A Certified Operating Room Technician with six (6) months experience in operating room technology. • Successful completion of a hospital-approved Nursing Aide Training Program. • Successful completion of on-the-job training program in O.R. technique.
