Licensed Vocational Nurse I

Summary The Department of Neurology is looking for an entry level, novice vocational nurse who possesses a basic general knowledge of nursing practice. This position will assist our Multiple Sclerosis physicians and APP in the areas of patient care including treatment room examination and procedures, schedules tests and appointments, and records and communicates information to referring physicians. The Department of Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine provides personalized care for patients with neurological disease, trains medical students and residents in clinical care and research, conducts research to advance the art and science of neurology, and provides meaningful new therapies for patients. This position will work closely with our Licensed Vocational Nurse III. This is an on site position located at our McNair Campus in the Medical Center. Collects pertinent clinical data to support the RN, APP and/or MD with patient clinical telephone calls, refers and preauthorizes treatment, and provides information to patient. Documents patient care services by charting in patient’s electronic medical record. Maintains clean and safe work environment; stocks and orders treatment room supplies. Maintains a professional and cooperative relationship among health care teams by communicating information, responding to requests, and building rapport by participating in team problem-solving methods. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or G.E.D and graduated from an approved licensed practical nurse/vocational nurse (LPN/LVN). Medical Assistant II - Vascular Surgery

Summary The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Medical Assistant II to work within the Division of Vascular Surgery. The Medical Assistant will provide support to clinicians and patients before and after their appointments and will work directly with multiple providers to provide high-quality patient care. Job Duties Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments. Conducts patient outreach and post operative patient follow up calls. Manages in-basket messages and coordinates incoming patient referrals. Enters orders for patient tests and obtains proper paperwork. Performs clinical and administrative responsibilities such as charting, filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information. Takes inventory of clinic supplies and order supplies as needed. Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as taking vital signs, suture/staple removal and assists with in-office procedures. Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation, notes the primary complaint/reason for patient's visit, and enters information in the electronic medical record. Instructs patients on medication management at the direction of physician or APP and provides education for medical procedures. Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition. Assists in scheduling surgeries in both St. Luke’s Hospital Epic and BCM Baylor College of Medicine Epic systems. Delivers staff education, clinical in-services, and /or participates in clinical staff meetings based on the needs of the department and as appropriate to scope of practice of an MA. Research Nurse II-Part Time

Summary This Part-time (.5 FTE) Research Nurse II in the Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) / Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH), is responsible for assisting faculty in the Pediatric Diabetes and Endocrinology Division with the conduction of Diabetes research studies. The incumbent will conduct participant diabetes education and training as required for research studies and administer medication. Will assist with other research study activities, including coordination of visits, participant enrollment, data collection, documentation, and safety of research participants. Lastly will assist with regulatory tasks and preparation of study data reports and related presentations and manuscripts. The position may include travel to other TCH sites (e.g., West Campus, etc.) to conduct research related activities. This role will identify study candidates, conduct informed consent, conduct study activities, including training study participants on the use of diabetes devices (e.g., insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors), assisting with device start and troubleshoot, as well as data download and interpretation and administer medication. The successful candidate will train and lead junior research staff and volunteers. The ideal candidate will have previous experience interacting with patients and families and/or experience in health care setting. Has experience with culturally diverse children and families. Will be highly organized, keep detailed records, and display excellent verbal, communication, and problem-solving skills. Is respectful, patient-centered interactions with patients, medical providers, and staff. Has proficiency with computers, internet, Microsoft Office applications, computer spreadsheets, and database management. Has the ability to understand and implement patient studies and protocols. This position is located in the Texas Medical Center. Job Duties Diabetes Education and clinical duties (80%): Provides formal diabetes education to study participants. Trains participants on the use of diabetes devices. Places diabetes devices (e.g., insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors) on the participant's body). Monitors, tracks, and adjusts insulin levels based on protocol. Collects and manages survey data, downloading data from diabetes management devices, and completes electronic medical record reviews. Administers study medication. Assists with pre-activation activities (e.g., develop study materials, such as study protocol, manual of operation, forms, questionnaires, etc.). Screens Epic for eligible candidates and recruit, enroll and evaluate research visits with participant/family. Obtains informed consent/assent. Collects biometric information (e.g., weight, height, waist circumference). Maintains patient charts and medical records. Performs data collection from the electronic medical record system (i.e., Epic). Conducts basic biospecimen processing (e.g., spinning, aliquoting, etc.). Collects, processes and stores, or ships blood or biological specimens as outlined per study protocols and associated lab or procedural manuals. Enters data into study dataset, maintain study documents and recruitment logs. Follows subjects' progress and advises the Principal Investigator. Travels to TCH health centers outside of the Texas Medical Center for study recruitment and other research-related activities. Regulatory / Programmatic Research Operations (20%): Performs interpretation of missing reports, in collaboration with study statistician and PI, produce curated reports with missing data, and follow-up with research coordinators to address the missing data. Assists with manuscript writing, e.g., integrate comments from co-authors to revise a manuscript - Formatting of manuscripts to comply with guidelines for authors from scientific journals. Performs submissions of manuscripts to scientific journals. Assists with editing, formatting and submitting abstracts to scientific meetings. Produces reports of relevant research program data, for instance, human subjects tables for progress reports and grant applications to funding agencies. Provides regular updates to PI and other members of the research team. Assists with regulatory tasks (e.g., complete data required for IRB renewals, notes to file, reports). Orders and maintains study supplies and equipment. Maintains records and regulatory documents and records for research studies. Serves as a lead to junior research staff and/or research volunteer teams. This includes, mentorship and training. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Two years of relevant experience as a licensed Registered Nurse (RN). Current license as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the State of Texas Board of Nursing. Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification. Preferred Qualifications Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE). Job Duties Reviews the daily schedule for patient arrivals, escorts patients to the infusion suite, takes vitals, and asks pertinent questions related to their care plans. Disinfects each infusion chair and equipment to prepare for the next patient. Attends to patient needs by offering snacks, drinks, warm blankets, and other comfort measures during treatment. Assists patients around the infusion suite as needed. Provides excellent customer service to patients. Facilitates and conducts peer-to-peer evaluations with health plans for infusion medications. Engages in dialogue with clinical staff, physicians, pharmacy, and insurance verification teams regarding processes for infusion patients and medication approvals. Works closely with health plans, patients, and pharmacies to manage specialty pharmacy benefits, and coordinates the scheduling and delivery of medications. Ensures patients have follow-up appointments with their ordering providers every six months, as per insurance guidelines. Manages the health plan appeal process for denials of infusion medications. Schedules patients for infusion visits. Assists with rooming patients. Manages the stocking of clinic supplies and assist with ordering supplies weekly or as needed. Surgery (Instructor - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant)

Summary The Division of Abdominal Transplant in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a qualified Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner) to join our multidisciplinary hepatology and liver transplant team. This faculty position offers the opportunity to practice in a nationally recognized transplant program providing comprehensive care to patients with chronic liver disease and undergoing liver transplantation. The APP will primarily provide outpatient hepatology care while collaborating closely with hepatologists, transplant surgeons, and other members of the hepatology and liver transplant teams. Job Purpose Successful candidates will be passionate about delivering exceptional patient-centered care, working in a collaborative academic environment, and contributing to the education of future healthcare professionals. The selected candidate will be appointed to the rank of Instructor and will be eligible for Baylor College of Medicine faculty benefits. Common diagnoses treated: Liver cirrhosis, autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, fatty liver disease, Wilson's disease, alcohol related liver disease, liver masses, cholecystitis, bile duct injuries, as well as pre and post liver transplantation care along with the transplant coordinators. Schedule: Four ten-hour workdays M, W, Thur, Fri. Option for M-F eight-hour workdays as well. One of these days each week will also include call from 7:30-5:30. Join rotating call schedule for weekend coverage for inpatient, to be used ONLY in the event that the inpatient provider is ill and back-up is needed. Job Duties The APP will provide comprehensive hepatology care in an outpatient setting while collaborating with designated hepatologists and the transplant team. Key responsibilities include: Obtain detailed history and perform physical examinations Formulate assessments and plans and evaluate the patient response to care Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic procedures, including, but not limited to paracentesis, x-rays, electrocardiograms, laboratory tests, and MR and CT imaging Prescribe appropriate pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments Instruct patients on prescribed therapeutic regimens, home care and health maintenance Ensure timely and accurate documentation in the EPIC electronic medical record system Provide follow-up and health maintenance care to patients Provide guidance and work direction to support staff, including, but not limited to nurses, medical assistants, and clinic coordinators Coordinate with abdominal transplant team for patients being evaluated for transplant Communicate with physicians, patients, and the family members of patients concerning patient care Give direction and support to PA/NP students, medical students, and/or residents assigned to the service Promote a positive work environment with a team-based approach through supportive and respectful interactions with peers, staff, learners, and faculty Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner Program Board certification by appropriate certifying organization DEA registration or eligibility to obtain Licensed as a Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner in the State of Texas Gastroenterology and/or hepatology experience, preferred Baylor College of Medicine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action/Equal Access Employer.
