Research Nurse II

Summary This Research Nurse position is within Office of Clinical Research (OCR), which provides centralized support to Investigators who conduct studies at Baylor College of Medicine and/or affiliated hospitals. Responsible for patient care in a clinical research setting, including obtaining vital signs, performing ECGs, starting IV lines, collecting and processing specimens, administering medications, and monitoring patients. Duties also include maintaining accurate records, ensuring protocol compliance, and performing additional procedures as required per protocol. The idea candidate selected for this position may occasionally be required to work after-hours, weekends, and overnight. In addition, we are looking for a candidate who can travel between Baylor College of Medicine and affiliated hospitals within Houston Texas Medical Center. Can work independently with minimal supervision. This position is located at our McNair Campus. Job Duties Assists Clinical Research Manager with pre-study visits and feasibility assessments. Coordinates and ensures accurate protocol implementation and conduct for all assigned protocols. Adheres to the scope of practices as defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act. Collects study specimens and check subjects’ vital signs. Administers study medications. Follows subjects’ progress and advises the Principal Investigator. Research Nurse I

Summary We are seeking a compassionate and organized Research Nurse to join our team and support multiple research projects involving pediatric patients with immunodeficiencies in the Allergy & Immunology Division. This position provides professional nursing expertise for patient‑facing clinical research activities, including screening, enrolling, consenting, and educating participants, as well as collecting biological specimens and administering study medications in accordance with study protocols and regulatory guidelines. The Research Nurse maintains accurate patient charts and regulatory documentation to ensure compliance with FDA and institutional requirements, and works closely with physicians, research staff, and families to support smooth study operations and high‑quality patient care in a fast‑paced environment. This position offers unique experience in our high-volume pediatric cardiac intensive care units, for an individual who wishes to pursue a career in pediatric cardiac critical care. The primary clinical site is at Texas Children's Hospital, the largest pediatric hospital in the United States, an affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. The section of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics is a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician assistants), post-doctoral fellows, and research support personnel committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children's Hospital is one of the highest volume programs in the world. The 48-bed unit is comprised of a Neonatal CICU, Pediatric CICU, and a first of its kind, Pediatric Heart Failure ICU. In addition to over 1000 congenital heart operations annually, TCH is home to an active heart failure program, a busy thoracic organ transplantation service, and one of the largest mechanical circulatory support and VAD programs in the world. In the CICU, the candidate will work alongside pediatric critical care and cardiology physician fellows, and will join the existing CICU Faculty encompassing over 30 attending physicians (comprised of individuals who are specialty trained in pediatric cardiology, pediatric critical care, anesthesia, neonatology, and internal medicine), physician Instructors training in pediatric cardiac critical care, and over 15 advanced practice providers. The primary clinical site is at Texas Children's Hospital, the largest pediatric hospital in the United States, an affiliated hospital of Baylor College of Medicine. The section of Critical Care Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics is a multidisciplinary team of attending critical care physicians, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician assistants), post-doctoral fellows, and research support personnel committed to the care of patients suffering from a life-threatening illness or injury. The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Texas Children's Hospital is one of the highest volume programs in the world. The 48-bed unit is comprised of a Neonatal CICU, Pediatric CICU, and a first of its kind, Pediatric Heart Failure ICU. In addition to over 1000 congenital heart operations annually, TCH is home to an active heart failure program, a busy thoracic organ transplantation service, and one of the largest mechanical circulatory support and VAD programs in the world. In the CICU, the candidate will work alongside pediatric critical care and cardiology physician fellows, and will join the existing CICU Faculty encompassing over 30 attending physicians (comprised of individuals who are specialty trained in pediatric cardiology, pediatric critical care, anesthesia, neonatology, and internal medicine), physician Instructors training in pediatric cardiac critical care, and over 15 advanced practice providers.
