Position Summary/ Department Summary: This Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner will work in the Emergency Department on the Boston BCH Main Campus. Key Responsibilities: Assess and manage patients at all acuity levels with medical and/or surgical complaints. Work in collaboration with board certified pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) physicians, PEM fellows, PAs and NPs, emergency medicine and pediatrics residents, and medical students. Perform detailed histories and physical examinations, order and interpret diagnostic studies, and develop and execute a wide range of care plans using sound clinical reasoning and critical thinking. Engage in consultations with subspecialty services to aid in patient care. Perform emergency medicine procedures (including but not limited to laceration repairs, incision and drainage, lumbar punctures, joint reductions, splinting, arthrocentesis, removal of nasal/ear foreign bodies, local nerve anesthesia and blocks). Develop discharge care plans with patients and families including prescribing medications and confirming primary care or specialty care follow-up. Work to promote and encourage optimal and realistic patient goals. Communicate with patients and families in a respectful manner leading to compassionate and empathetic care. Instruct and counsel patients regarding physical and mental health issues. Assist in the education of medical and physician assistant students rotating in the department. For NPs only: Providing individualized care for patients boarding behavioral health emergencies for up to 12 patients. Attending morning rounds with the ED Psychiatry team and the charge nurse to review and coordinate plans Supporting the nursing staff and the Behavioral Response Team in treating ED patients with acute agitation and unsafe behaviors using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological de-escalation techniques 34.5 hours per week, shifts are rotating Monday through Sunday and include days/evenings/overnights/weekends/holidays. The Inpatient Pain Nurse Practitioner provides expert, evidence-based care for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults experiencing acute, chronic, and complex pain conditions throughout the hospital. The NP is an integral member of a multidisciplinary team that partners closely with anesthesiologists, surgeons, intensivists, hospital medicine providers, nurses, pharmacists, rehabilitation specialists, psychologists, and palliative care providers to optimize pain management, functional recovery, and patient outcomes. Key Responsibilities: Perform comprehensive assessments, obtain medical histories, conduct physical examinations, and develop individualized pain management plans for hospitalized patients with acute, chronic, postoperative, and medically complex pain conditions. Manage patients receiving multimodal analgesia, including opioid and non-opioid therapies, ketamine infusions, patient-controlled analgesia (PCA), epidural analgesia, peripheral nerve catheters, methadone, and other advanced pain management modalities. Assess and manage patients requiring opioid or sedative weaning following prolonged critical illness or hospitalization. Monitor treatment response, adjust pain management plans, and coordinate ongoing care throughout hospitalization. Provide consultation to inpatient teams regarding pain assessment, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain management strategies, and complex analgesic regimens. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and consulting services to develop coordinated plans of care that promote patient comfort, safety, functional recovery, and timely discharge. Participate in daily interdisciplinary rounds and communicate recommendations with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Educate patients, families, nursing staff, trainees, and healthcare providers regarding pain management, medication safety, and individualized treatment plans. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety activities, evidence-based practice projects, research, and program development to advance pediatric pain management. Contribute to the education and mentorship of new staff and learners while fostering a collaborative, patient-centered care environment. Position Summary: We are looking for an Advanced Practice Nurse to work across a three-hospital system in southeastern Massachusetts, primarily supporting two Level II Special Care Nurseries (SCNs) at Charlton Memorial Hospital and St. Luke’s Hospital, in collaboration with Neonatologists and Advanced Practice Providers within the Boston Children’s Hospital Newborn Medicine Network. Key Responsibilities: Providing neonatal care in Level II A Special Care Nurseries, with current capabilities including high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC), as well as CPAP and intubation for stabilization prior to transfer, with plans to advance toward Level II B designation to support CPAP administration beyond stabilization. Managing neonates typically ≥32 weeks gestation, including those requiring respiratory support, thermoregulation, feeding support, and management of common neonatal conditions. Performing delivery attendance and neonatal resuscitation, including advanced airway management and stabilization of critically ill newborns. Leading and supporting stabilization and coordination of transport for infants requiring transfer to tertiary care centers. Collaborating with obstetric, pediatric, respiratory therapy, and nursing teams to deliver high-quality, family-centered care. Participating in quality improvement initiatives and program development, including expansion of respiratory care capabilities and innovative practices (e.g., LMA surfactant administration). Supporting education and simulation-based training across interdisciplinary teams. Providing clinical coverage through a mix of day shifts (9 hours), night shifts (15 hours), and 24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays, with flexibility across sites. Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Complex Care Services Department Summary Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to function in the inpatient Complex Care Service (CCS) at Boston Children’s Hospital. CCS is a long-standing and nationally-regarded inpatient service within the Division of General Pediatrics that serves hospitalized children with medical complexity, who have complex chronic conditions and functional limitations. Common reasons for admission to CCS include infections (aspiration pneumonia, pyelonephritis), chronic condition exacerbations (epilepsy, digestive dysmotility), and post-operative recovery following surgery (baclofen pump placement, gastrostomy, spinal fusion, etc.). This role will provide patient evaluation, assessment, and facilitate care for the patients on the CCS service and will implement interventions tailored to improve systems for patient care and enhance patient safety for this population. The CCS NP/PA will work collaboratively with supervising physicians, pediatric trainees (residents and fellows), and the entire nursing team to promote optimal clinical care. The setting is fast-paced and collaborative with many opportunities for learning. Requirements include completion of a master’s degree program in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies. Position Summary/ Department Summary: Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, Neurology Join our Center for Excellence in Epilepsy and Neurology, with care focusing on children and families with epilepsy and neurological diagnosis at acute and intermediate levels of care. This is a 36 hour/week position on a 31-bed pediatric neuroscience unit, inclusive of a 12 bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit. Opportunity to flex cover the Neuro Critical Care consult service following additional orientation. Key Responsibilities: First line care of Epilepsy and Neurology patient population on the inpatient neuroscience unit, including assessment and medical history, physical exams, diagnosis, and family centered care of patients and their families. Consulting in an interdisciplinary manner on all assigned inpatients during daily rounds and managing assigned patients throughout the course of the day. Participating in ongoing research and quality improvement initiatives, as well as facilitation of patient/family and multidisciplinary team education.
