PURPOSE: The purpose of the Medical Aide is to assist students by providing for special health care needs in compliance with medical orders; working collaboratively with staff and families to advance special needs students\' educational progress; documenting and maintaining appropriate medical records for assigned students. MEDICAL AIDE QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE: Licensed Nurse Practitioner (LPN) Current nursing license or certification required, as appropriate for state regulations and district requirements. Experience working with children, preferably in a school or pediatric setting. Experience with medication administration and enteral (tube) feeding procedures preferred. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school staff. Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to travel between district buildings during the workday. Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred or required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Medical Support Provide scheduled hydration, medication administration, and tube feedings for students in accordance with physician orders, district policies, and applicable state regulations. Monitor students during and after medical procedures and report any concerns to the District Nurse and appropriate school staff. Maintain accurate documentation of all medications and medical procedures administered. Ensure medical supplies and equipment are clean, organized, and properly maintained. Follow established infection control, safety, and confidentiality procedures. Communicate effectively with school staff, parents/guardians, and healthcare providers as appropriate. Classroom Support Assist students in the Instructional Life Skills (ILS) classroom when not performing scheduled medical duties. Provide one-on-one or small-group assistance to students with academic, functional, communication, and social-emotional skills. Assist students with daily living skills, mobility, and personal care as needed. Help maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment. General Responsibilities Travel between Westbrook Primary School and Glen Grove Intermediate School to provide student services according to established schedules and student needs Travel to other schools in the District if needs arise. Purpose: To provide healthcare to students and staff members to maximize health and wellness in the school community and act as liaison to parents, staff, central office and government agencies on health issues. All duties are performed in accordance with district/state board of education policies and procedures to meet the health and safety needs of students. Reporting Relationship: Reports to the building administrator of assigned school, District Nurse, and Assistant Superintendent for Student Services. Location: Located in the assigned school(s)/health office(s). Responsibilities: Administers first aid to staff / students, medication and specialized medical treatments for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children in accordance with State laws and District policies. Administers mandated screenings (e.g. vision, dental, hearing, etc.) for the purpose of referring medical conditions and/or providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children. Assesses situations involving students\' safety and other health related issues for the purpose of identifying problems, referring for proper treatment and complying with legal requirements. Collaborates with agencies and other school safety team members to conduct site assessments (e.g. health issues, student health records, emergency preparedness, building/grounds environments, building facilities, etc.) for the purpose of identifying issues and/or providing recommendations for improving safety and accessibility. Collaborates with parents, students, teachers, staff, health care providers, and/or public agencies for the purpose of promoting and/or securing student health services, providing information and complying with legal requirements. Participates in a variety of meetings, workshops and seminars, Individual Educational Plan meetings, and interdisciplinary teams for the purpose of gathering, conveying and/or sharing information on student health needs, service delivery, and educational programs, and/or improving skills and knowledge. Provides care to students with chronic illnesses and extremely high-risk students (e.g. allergies, asthma, diabetes, seizures, medically fragile, etc.) for the purpose of assisting the child in achieving the highest possible functional level. Refers students requiring additional medical attention for the purpose of providing required follow-up treatment and services.
