Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: ** $10,000 Sign-on Bonus offered. ** Position Purpose: The surgical technologist, using the principles of medical asepsis, prepares the operating room for surgical cases of all specialties and instruments the surgical procedures anticipating the needs of the surgeon. The surgical technologist provides care within the MercyOne North Iowa Standards of Care, AORN Standards of Care and Practice and the Operating Room Policies and Procedures. What you Will Do: Assists the circulating nurse in assessing the patients' needs and helps to develop and implement the plan of care. Provides care to all surgical patients in accordance with the operating room’s performance standards, physician preference cards, and the AORN Standards of Care and Practice. Assists in setting up rooms. Secures safe transport of the patient if needed. Confirms correctness of the surgical site, prepares the pre-operative site, instruments the case, manages the sterile field and specimens, and turns the room around under the supervision of the circulating nurse. Serves as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources. Meets productivity expectations of unit/department as defined by unit manager. Identifies accurate changes on surgeons' preference cards. Utilizes and maintains appropriate supplies during the case and in the department. Develops and maintains knowledge/skills in all surgical specialties. Hours: Day Shift - 8- hour shifts. Specialty team: call 10-12 days per month Call response time is 30 min. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Graduate of a surgical technologist program is required, or graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience. Certification as a surgical technologist required. LPN license required if graduate of LPN program. Must have at least 2 years of experience functioning as a Surgical Tech. Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintains current status. Nurses on the unit are trained to care for patients with Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs), gaining valuable experience in advanced cardiac therapies. New graduate nurses can expect to begin VAD training after six months on the unit, while experienced nurses will receive VAD training after orientation. Posting POSITION PURPOSE The dedicated Charge Nurse is a registered nurse responsible for providing shift-to-shift leadership for the practice and delivery of safe, effective, efficient, ethical, and culturally competent care to the unit patient population. This pivotal role bridges direct patient care with administrative responsibilities, ensuring optimal patient outcomes through effective leadership, resource allocation, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team. The Charge Nurse ensures adherence to established policies, promotes a collaborative work environment, and supports staff development while maintaining patient safety and satisfaction. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Develops and maintains departmental daily staffing plan detailing appropriate employee classifications and qualifications consistent with the department's operational plan, projected volumes, patient/acuity and other relevant indicators. Assures compliance with staffing plan. Oversees daily operations, staff management, and coordination of interdepartmental activities within the unit or department during the assigned shift.
