Job Description Performs the essential duties and responsibilities and the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of assigned patients and nurses. Responsible for meeting the established standards of Nursing Practice, for managing supplies and equipment and any assigned personnel. Responsible for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments. Responsible for solving practical problems, dealing with a variety of issues and interpreting a variety of instructions furnished in written or oral form. Demonstrate clinical knowledge and judgement necessary for patient’s nursing care. Supervision of all unit staff is involved requiring little direction, instruction, training, or planning. SHIFT AND SCHEDULE Full Time; 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS · Ability to assess, project, and plan for patient needs.· Maintains current knowledge of medications and administers medications in accordance with Hospital policy and procedures.· Ability to make appropriate decisions exercising independent judgement.· Must be able to provide instructions to patients related to the patient’s plan of care.· Provides accurate, timely, and complete documentation in respect to plan of care, assessment and other patient care documentation.· Communicates effectively (hear, listen, speak) with patients and families.· Communicates effectively (hear, listen, speak) with physicians and health team members.· Respects patients’ rights and confidential information.· Demonstrates age specific competence in caring for patients from various age groups.· Must provide a safe environment for patients, families, and co-workers.· Adheres to Infection Control policies and procedures.· Incorporates continuous performance improvement recommendations into clinical practice. · Supports and practices in accordance with Hospital policy, procedures and protocol.· Contribute and participate in cost containment activities.· Willing to work a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of the unit.· Attends meetings as directed by Nurse Manager. · Management of personnel and patient care. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE · Previous experience as a medical surgical RN· BSN preferred· CNML or Certification in area of specialty (CMSRN, etc.) preferred· Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS · To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Job Description The LVN, with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. The LVN functions under his or her own license and assumes accountability and responsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the standards of nursing practice.7 The LVN demonstrates responsibility forcontinued competence in nursing practice, and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning. This LVN, in a non-primary care nurse role, will meet the needs of patients (inpatient or outpatient) requiring education, assistance, and/or guidance related to lactation. The LVN will act as a surgical technologist to serve as an integral part of the team of medical practitioners providing surgical care to patients. The LVN will work under the supervision of a circulating RN and/or physician to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. SHIFT AND SCHEDULE Part Time, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS · Complete a comprehensive assessment. This includes the ongoing, extensive collection, analysis and interpretation of data. · Synthesize the data collected during the comprehensive assessment to identify problems, and to formulate goals, teaching plans and outcomes in collaboration with primary RN. · The LVN may begin and deliver interventions within the plan of care for patients within legal, ethical, and regulatory parameters and in consideration of health restoration, disease prevention, wellness, and promotion of healthy lifestyles. · Evaluate and report patient outcomes and responses to therapeutic interventions in comparison to benchmarks from evidence-based practice and research findings, and plans any follow-up care and referrals to appropriate resources that may be needed.· Makes appropriate decisions in collaboration with the primary care RN· Ability to assess, project and plan for procedural needs· Possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.· Combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementation tools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of safe patient outcomes. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE · Current Texas Licensed Vocational Nursing license required.· NRP and ACLS required within 6 months of hire.· Ability to assess, project and plan for procedural needs· Possess expertise in the theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique.· Combine the knowledge of human anatomy, surgical procedures, and implementationtools and technologies to facilitate a physician's performance of invasive therapeutic anddiagnostic procedures.· Required to completed (3) hours of hospital provided continuing education upon hire andannually for Advanced Sterile Processing Certification. Education will focus on thehandling of soiled instrumentation at the point of use and storage of instrumentation forsterile processing department pick-up. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE · Current State of Texas License as a Registered Nurse required. · Bachelor of Science (BSN) Degree in Nursing required. · If nurse does not have a BSN upon hire, the nurse must be currently enrolled in BSN program with graduation within 12 months of assigned position. · Certification in nursing leadership required (e.g., CNML, NE-BC, NEA-BC, CENP) · If nurse does not have certification upon hire, the nurse must obtain leadership certification within 24 months of assigned position. · Master’s degree (MSN, MBA, MHA) preferred. · One (1) year of management/leadership experience is preferred. · Certification in practice area preferred (e.g., CCRN, PCCN, CMSRN, MEDSURG-BC) · Membership in nursing leadership and specialty professional organizations preferred. · ACLS required within 12 months of date of employment.
