Position: Registered Nurse (RN) Dept: Oncology Infusion Shift: 8A-5P; 4-9 hr shifts, OC WEs and holidays Facility: Miami Valley Hospital North The Oncology Infusion/PICC Nurse is a registered nurse (RN) who partners with and advocates for patients/families/significant others to provide physical, emotional and spiritual support which impacts patient outcomes in a safe environment. The RN functions in a versatile role that demonstrates professionalism and promotes excellence and autonomy in the practice of Nursing. As an Oncology Infusion/PICC Nurse, the oncology nurse collaborates with other cancer care team members to assess and respond to the full impact cancer has on the patient and family, including the physical symptoms, functional limitations, psychosocial disruptions, and knowledge needs associated with the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Oncology nursing is patient-centered and may encompass individuals, families, groups, and communities. The oncology nurse is accountable for delivering care within the framework of the nursing process. The scope of oncology nursing practice will include health promotion and disease prevention strategies, treatment and related physical care of disease management, psychosocial support, and education for active participation in decision-making. The oncology nurse actively participates in professional role development activities, including quality assessment and improvement, practice evaluation, professional education, collegiality, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the review and clinical application of research findings. Integrates the Collaborative Model of Care with a strong focus on patient-centered care into daily practice. Provides care for patients across the life span in a manner sensitive to social, cultural diversity. Demonstrates competency in all aspects of chemotherapy administration, immunotherapy administration, IV therapy, subcutaneous and intramuscular injection administration. Knowledgeable and practices within the ONS guidelines during any adverse event while administering chemotherapy, i.e. extravasations, infiltrations or chemotherapy spill incidents. Registered Nurse/ ED Float Pool

The Tier I System-wide Staff Resource RNs will float between campuses (Miami Valley Hospital, Miami Valley Hospital South, Good Samaritan Hospital, Atrium Medical Center, Upper Valley Medical Center, Jamestown, Mason, and Good Samaritan North) and will float to (1) level of specialized acuity (I.E. Emergency Departments, Dialysis units, Labor & Delivery units, Nurseries, etc.). Tier 1 System-wide Staff Resource RNs float to designated units to subsidize staffing shortages as needed. The Tier I System-wide Float RN is required to maintain core competencies upon hire and annually. Tier I Staff Resource RNs receive accelerated float pay. The clinical nurse (staff resources) functions in a multi-faceted role that demonstrates professionalism and promotes excellence in the practice of Nursing. The RN is responsible for maintaining high standards for a caseload of patients as described by the scope of care for the area of practice and demonstrates appropriate actions based on sound scientific research and evidence-based principles. The RN also coordinates/directs care delivered by the interdisciplinary team.
