Position Summary: Provides care acutely and critically ill patients in need of intravenous treatment in a highly technical and ongoing monitoring environment and responds to calls for intravenous treatment and placement throughout the hospital. Administers intravenous therapeutic treatments as directed by a physician. Observes patients' IV treatment and records observations in patient medical records. Provides information to patients and families regarding intravenous treatment and procedures. Education/Experience: Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and meets the requirements as specified in the Nursing Administration Policies. Licensing/Certification Requirements: Current License by the Nevada State Board of Nursing to Practice as a Registered Nurse, and meets the requirements as specified in the Nursing Administration Policies. Current BLS, ACLS and USGIV certification at hire. PICC &CPI within 12 months of hire. Registered Nurse with a minimum of two (2) years documented Critical Care nursing experience within the past 5 years Current USGIV/PICC Certification Must be open to nights and weekends Preferences will be given to applicants who document the following: Knowledge of advance practice IV therapy, and Critical Care medication administration Competency in Ultrasound Guided IV and Midline IV placement Demonstrated knowledge of PICC line and central line placement and criteria Knowledge of: Advance practice IV therapy, and Critical Care medicine; patient requiring IV placement and treatment; Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation (SBAR) communication methods/techniques; nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation and coordination of patient care); anatomy and physiology; standards of care; disease process; medical equipment; patient care plan development; patient evaluation and assessment techniques; body mechanics used with ambulating, transferring and repositioning patients; how to use general office equipment including, but not limited to: facsimiles, copiers, telephones and computers; pharmacology and medication administration; Nurse Practice Act; department and hospital safety practices and procedures; patient rights; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures; age specific patient care practices. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions : Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment, including stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time, and strength to examine and treat varied patients, vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone. One (1) year recent L&D experience in a comparable unit. Licensing/Certification Requirements: Current License by the Nevada State Board of Nursing to Practice as a Registered Nurse, and meets the requirements as specified in the Nursing Administration Policies. Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider (BLS) certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) certification and Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol (NRP) certification upon hire.
