Summary of the Job:

The nurse practitioner covers all areas within the Pediatric Department. The nurse practitioner manages pediatric and newborn patients with consultation, collaboration, and general supervision and under a collaborative practice agreement with the Pediatric Hospitalist and/or Intensivist, Pediatrician and the Emergency Room Physician utilizing extensive knowledge of pathophysiology, physiology and pharmacology. The Nurse Practitioner exercises independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis and initiation of certain delegated medical processes, procedures and protocols depending on level of expertise. Nurse Practitioners work within the framework of the State Nurse Practice Act and follow hospital policies and procedures. The nurse practitioner also complies with hospital and nursing standards in the performance of job duties and responsibilities. The nurse practitioner will support the goals and objectives of the department and of the hospital.

Minimum Qualifications:

Successfully completed Board Certified Nursing Program. Master’s Degree in Nursing or equivalent experience required. 1 year experience in pediatrics required; 2 years’ experience preferred. Current LA APRN license. Current PALS and BLS certifications upon hire. PALS Instructor Certification and NRP obtained within 12 months of hire. Certifications may be through any International Liaison Committee on resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check off.

Able to proficiently perform initial and subsequent assessments on pediatric patients. Able to effectively lead pediatric resuscitation teams. Able to perform:

1. Lumbar puncture

2. IV therapy

3. Superficial Abscess Drainage

Preferred Qualifications: Acute care pediatric experience preferred.

Physical Demands:

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.

Job Description UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital is recognized throughout the world as a leader in health care, known for innovation, technology and compassionate care. UCSF has one of the top children's hospitals in the nation, according to a ranking by U.S. News & World Report. Our 183-bed UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital has more than 150 specialists in more than 40 areas of medicine. The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital provides extraordinary high-level care for children who require continuous monitoring. The unit has 20 beds for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. More than 1,000 children per year are admitted into the intensive care units at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital arriving via ambulance, helicopter and airplane from throughout the western United States. The Pediatric Transitional Care Unit (TCUP) is a 18-bed unit for infants and children suffering from a variety of conditions or recovering from surgery. The TCU provides care to patients with a moderate to high complexity of disease such as those recovering from solid organ transplantation, titration of anticoagulant therapy and other infusion, and post-operative specialty surgery care (ENT, neurosurgery). Patients requiring respiratory support including BIPAP, CPAP, high flow nasal cannula and patients requiring mechanical ventilation with tracheostomy in place are also routinely admitted to the TCUP. The Nurse Practitioner will act as a full member of the team taking responsibility for the safe delivery of care in collaboration with attending physicians, fellows and residents. This team member will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Division Chief, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated. Nurse Practitioners on the PICU and TCUP Team provide care in rotating 12h shifts. Total 100 Qualifications Required qualifications: Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing recognized Nurse Practitioner Program with a master’s or doctoral degree aligned with an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Specialization Nurse Practitioner 1: Minimum of two (2) years of recent experience working as an RN in a Pediatric ICU setting Nurse Practitioner 2: Minimum of two (2) years of Nurse Practitioner experience in a pediatric inpatient or emergency department setting AND minimum of two (2) years inpatient RN experience in pediatric critical or transitional/intermediate care Preferred Qualifications Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as an AC-PNP in a level III Pediatric Intensive Care Unit Licenses/Certifications California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction California Nurse Practitioner (NP) License without restriction California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role - Pediatric Inpatient (CPNP-AC).
