The registered nurse is a member of the nursing team. The registered nurse must demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to meet the physical, psychological, educational, social, and spiritual needs appropriate to the age of the patient served; as well as the care needed as described in the department’s policies and procedures. They will be responsible for coordinating patient care and establishing a trusting environment while assisting patients and their family members.
The forensic nurse primarily gives care to patients affected by violence and trauma and is able to interact with agencies that respond to these patients. In addition to providing a complete medical forensic exam, they are trained to collect evidence maintaining chain of custody and provide expert testimony in court.
This is a part time position that requires at least 36 hours of call per month.

Requirements
- Nursing Diploma and/or Associate Degree in Nursing
- Educational requirements per hospital certifications (Example: Stroke, Orthopedic/Spine)
- Current and valid Registered nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia or from a state that is part of a Compact agreement with Virginia
- CPR
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience as an RN
Preferred Qualifications
· BSN, MSN
· Emergency or forensic nursing
Skills
- Call/weekend/and Holiday commitment.
- HIPAA – appropriately manages Protected Health Information (PHI).
- Annual education and competencies as required per hospital certifications.
- Personal Protective Equipment - when appropriate.
- Safe Patient Handling devices - to minimize risk of injury.
- Maintains calm and safe approach within the work environment towards those that display violent or aggressive behavior.
