    Position Summary

    The Nurse Practitioner, Outpatient – Medical Oncology plays a vital role in delivering high‑quality, patient‑centered care within an oncology outpatient setting. This advanced practice provider is responsible for providing comprehensive medical care, conducting assessments, and managing treatment plans for oncology patients under the guidance and collaboration of supervising physicians.

    The Nurse Practitioner performs physical examinations, implements preventive health measures, and develops individualized treatment strategies aligned with established clinical guidelines. This role emphasizes symptom management, survivorship care, patient education, and seamless care coordination across the oncology care continuum.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including histories and physical examinations
    • Develop, implement, and evaluate treatment plans in collaboration with the medical oncology team
    • Perform billable chemotherapy education visits (“Chemo School”), ensuring patients and caregivers understand treatment plans and potential side effects
    • Manage follow‑up and survivorship visits, addressing long‑term care needs and patient wellness
    • Provide expert symptom management and toxicity assessments, intervening promptly to optimize patient outcomes
    • Coordinate care and support patient navigation across services and specialties
    • Accurately complete clinical documentation and order management in the electronic medical record
    • Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care
    • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, medications, and supportive care resources

    Qualifications

    • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
    • Current Nurse Practitioner licensure in the state of Louisiana
    • National NP certification (ANCC or AANP)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association
    • Oncology experience preferred (outpatient oncology highly desirable)
    • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary environment
