Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

 

​The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist completes preoperative patient assessments and prepares and maintains necessary tools and resources for procedures. Responsible for evaluation of anesthetic agents used for patients before, during, and after procedures. Actively observe and assess patients throughout the course of procedures and ensures safe patient emergence from anesthetic. Performs supplemental anesthesia duties in situations as needed and directed by anesthesiologist.

Albrecht Medical Center has 3 ORs and 2 Procedure Rooms We have a mix of GI, Gen Surg, Ortho, and Podiatry. We also perform simple gyne and cataracts once a month. Our typical volume depends on the day. GI days are typically higher volume than Ortho/Gen Surg days. Overall, we average about 7-12 cases/day. Regional experience is preferred but our highly skilled teams will train you. Care may be provided in a variety of settings including but not limited to hospital, ambulatory surgical centers, endoscopy and other procedural areas and pain treatment centers. The CRNA and AA will support the mission, vision, values and goals of the WellStar Health System by focusing on clinical excellence through the provision of quality, consistent, patient-centered care. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: 1. Clinical Functions a. Under the supervision of or in collaboration with an Anesthesiologist the practitioner will administer anesthetics to render patients insensible to pain during surgical, obstetrical and other medical procedures. b. Provider agrees to cooperate with, participate in, and comply with, the quality assurance, risk management and peer review programs, grievance procedures and utilization control mechanisms implemented by the Medical Group and its Affiliates. Job duties may include but are not limited to the following: a. Administer general anesthetics to render patients insensible to pain during surgical, obstetrical and other medical procedures. b. May initiate advanced life saving techniques as outlined by Anesthesiologist, or by protocol, as indicated by clinical scenario. c. Establishes multi-parameter monitoring of patients prior to, during and after anesthesia or in other cute care situations. This includes ECG, direct arterial pressure, central venous pressure, arterial blood gas determinations, and hematocrit, in addition to the routine measurement of temperature, respiration, blood pressure and heart rate. Also, other monitoring, as may be developed for anesthesia and intensive care will be incorporated. d. Manages pre and post anesthetic care, including ventilatory support of patients as assigned by Anesthesiologist. e. Manages ventilators and other respiratory care parameters as directed by anesthesiologist or by protocol. f. Assist in research projects as carried out by an anesthesiologist. g. Instructs others in the principles and practices of anesthesia, respiratory care parameters, as directed by Anesthesiologist or by protocol. h. Determine, set up and prepare necessary drugs, supplies and equipment for the administration of anesthetics; assemble gas machine and test to insure proper functioning; ensure availability of proper type blood for emergency use. i. Study patient records to determine probable effects of anesthetic on patient; monitor vital signs during course of procedure; take necessary action to ensure a near normal physiological status of the patient. j. Prepare patients for anesthesia to include explaining procedures and positioning patient on operating room table; record condition of patient and type of anesthetic used on patient's chart. k. Assist in moving patient from operating room to recovery area; check patient periodically and take remedial measures to alleviate unfavorable post anesthesia effects as required. Supervise and instruct student nurse anesthetists in the administration of general anesthetics; assist in evaluating clinical performance and progress; instruct residents, interns and allied health students in the procedures and techniques of anesthesiology. l. Disassemble equipment and clean work area; report necessary equipment repairs and adjustments to proper personnel. m. Maintain records of each anesthetic administered and prepare periodic reports related to activities. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
