Position Overview

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and coordination of the nursing department. In this role, you will oversee all nursing operations, maintain regulatory compliance, and foster a culture of clinical excellence, teamwork, and accountability.

Working closely with the Administrator and Medical Director, you will play a critical role in ensuring survey readiness, improving quality outcomes, and supporting the professional development of nursing staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all nursing services and clinical operations

  • Ensure continuous survey readiness in accordance with NY DOH and CMS regulations

  • Recruit, mentor, and retain high-performing nursing staff

  • Establish and maintain clinical competencies, training programs, and performance standards

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary leadership to enhance resident outcomes and satisfaction

  • Oversee infection control, risk management, and QA/QAPI initiatives

  • Develop and manage staffing plans, scheduling, and departmental budgets

  • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, and teamwork

  • Serve as a visible and approachable clinical leader within the facility

Qualifications

  • Active New York RN License in good standing

  • BSN preferred (ADN with strong leadership experience will be considered)

  • Minimum 2+ years of leadership experience as a DON, ADON, or Nurse Manager in a skilled nursing or long-term care setting

  • Demonstrated success with state surveys and regulatory compliance

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

  • Ability to build and support a high-performing clinical team
