Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Key Responsibilities:

  • Administers medication as ordered by a physician under the supervision of a licensed nurse, in accordance with any state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.

  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the “five rights” of medication administration.

  • Records the administration of medications and/or treatments appropriately.

  • Observes for and reports any reactions and/or side effects of medications to a licensed nurse on the appropriate shift.

  • Administers PRN medications in accordance with state and federal regulations and consistent with facility policy.

Certified Medication Aide (CMA) Qualifications:

  • State certification as a Nurse Aide is required

  • State certification as a Medication Aide is required

  • State approved medication administration certification

  • Complete familiarity with duties of a certified nurse aide

  • Highly developed observation skills

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills

Education and Experience Education and Experience required at this level consists of two years of experience in providing patient care. Special Requirements Some positions may require the possession of a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and/or possession of a Class C (CDL) Commercial Drivers License at the time of appointment. Some agencies may require the translation of health information for non-English speaking clients. The Department of Veterans Affairs requires current certification in good standing by the Oklahoma State Department of Health as a (CNA) Certified Nursing Aide for Level I and II.
