Mom/Baby Department Highlights
  • Level II Maternal Designation with Level II NICU
  • Certified Nurse Midwife Hospitalist Based Model
  • 8 LDRPs, 5 Antepartum Rooms, 2 Operating Rooms
  • 40 – 45 deliveries per month

Here’s What You Need
  • Diploma in Nursing or
  • Associate degree from an accredited Nursing program required
  • BSN preferred
  • One-year experience as a clinical nurse, or completion of an RN residency program.
  • One year of Labor & Delivery experience strongly preferred
  • RN must practice within the regulations of the Texas Nurse Practice Act, serve as a role model, intra/interdisciplinary collaborator, and coordinator for quality patient care
  • BCLS – Basic Cardiac Life Support prior to providing independent care and maintained quarterly required and
  • CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention training within 90 days and maintained annually required and
  • NRP – Essential Neonatal Resuscitation Program required within 90 days and
  • ACLS – Advance Cardiac Life Support within 90 days required and
  • NRPA – Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program within 90 days required

What You Will Do

Delivers care to patients utilizing the Nursing Process

  • Assesses the patient
  • Plans the care of the patient
  • Intervenes as appropriate
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions
  • Incorporates age specific safety/infection control measures into patient care.
  • Initiates action to meet patient and/or significant others need for information
  • Maintains continuity of patient care inter-shift, inter-hospital, and while expediting out of hospital transfers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to): Maternal Monitoring: They check blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, oxygen saturation, and monitor for signs of complications like preeclampsia or infection Labor Support: They assist with positioning the patient, guiding breathing techniques, and offering comfort measures like massage, cold packs, birthing balls, or hydrotherapy IV Therapy: Starting and maintaining IVs for hydration, medication administration, or anesthesia Patient Advocacy: Nurses act as advocates during labor, especially for patients who may have specific birth plans or cultural needs Newborn Care: They dry, warm, and assess the baby immediately after birth (Apgar scoring), assist with cord clamping, and administer prophylactic medications Utilize the chain of command when necessary to ensure patient well-being and appropriateness of care to newborns and mothers during the antepartum and postpartum periods Qualifications Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers.
